Hi Guys,

Just a heads up on some of the work thats been done for bomb sights in the soon to be released ETO update. Have redone sights for the Blenhiem, Halifax's, Lancasters, B17G, Bostons, B25, and a few others as well. I hope to get a few more done before the cut off date.

All sights have been resized to 2048 x 2048 which allowed for much greater detail to be depicted and existing sight textures have been redone with much better graphics.

I have replaced model files with new edited models that have fixed the problem of the sght texture seeming to float in the middle of the screen when zoomed out fully.

Now when zoomed right out the sight texture is bound by the top and bottom edge of the screen with no gaps.

This one was made for the AvH_US_B-17G-80_002 currently in ETO and depicts the Nordan sight. We have also got MkIV Wimperis Coarse Setting Bomb Sight and the Type 1 Gyro bomb sight (RAF equivilant of the Nordan)

1. Run up to target, full zoom out using left “[“ key, target (hangers) entering field of view.

2. Run up to target, full zoom out, target in manual eye sight plate.

3. Run up, zoomed in 2 clicks from full zoom using the right “[“ key, as the target tracks towards main sight circle.

4. Run up, zoomed in 4 or 5 clicks using the right”[“ key, as the target enters the main sight picture.

You can zoom in much closer than this, pretty much until the sight circle fills the whole screen and you can’t see any of the metal work.

You’re bombing height will determine how many clicks in will be required. i.e. the higher up you are the more you may have to zoom in.

You will be able to try these out soon enough, a set of files for the recently released B24D"s has been sent over to Reg's Hanger for release as a an optional set of files for Teds great B24's.

regards Rob.

One question I would like to ask? How do you line up the target in the Blemhein and Halifax Bombsites?

Thanks guys,

The Wimperis Course Setting Bomb sight for the Blenheims and Halifax's etc.

This sight is a line of sight device, by this I mean you have three factors which are used to set the sight up for its bombing run then the Bombaimer looks through the correctly set guides and when the target enters the sighting marker he drops the bombs. I'll try to explian..

1. Height
On this sight the height is set using the vertical pole, (the main bar visible in the bombsight view, you slide the little white circle thing up and down the pole until it matches the height you’re flying at)

2. Airspeed
In this section you would slide the little white arrow assembly along the horizontal bar running forward of the main sight body. (this is partly obscured in the sight image)

3. Drift.
This is calculated with the circular disc on top of the main sight body and just behind the vertical height calculating bar. you use a second drift instrument (not shown) to work out the angle, you then rotate the sight body to match that and against the drift markings on the sight base.

So now you have speed height and drift set. if all is going to plan your target should track along the line of the horizontal speed bar and you as the bomb aimer are looking through a line of sight that has you align the little white circle thingy on the height bar with the little white arrow assembly on the speed bar; So when the target passes under the two aligned parts (speed, height) you hit the bomb release button.

In CFS3 we don’t have the ability to set drift speed and height, so what I have done is set the image up as if you are looking through the aligned parts correctly for what ever height and speed you’re doing. this means all you have to do is get the target to track from the top of the screen along the left side of the height bar and when its under the little white circle with the arrow in it, release your bombs. CF3 just requires that the target is in the centre of the screen when you drop the bombs, if your in the centre you cant miss.

the pictures below describe what I'm trying to say above.

regards Rob.

Thank You. I had shown an RCAF World War II veterean the ETO Expansion. He was impressed by the Lancasters and Halifaxs detail. These new Bombsites are going to amaze him. He is 86 years old now.

I am truly impressed with the sights, esp the Norden!

Any idea when they'll be available from Reg's Hangar?

Not that I'm anxious, or anything.....

Greg is away at the moment so I am not sure he has put the files up. Real life gets in the way.

Hi Guys,

Gosd, I'll get the sights over to Kasey and get him to upload the files here on SOH.

I have included a readme file on how to install them into the released B24's over at Regs Hanger.

for the sight other than the B24 shown on page one of the thread, they are included in the current ETO 1.40 patch.
