Yep, cats aren't known for their intelligence. Peeing behind couches, tearing up curtains, yes. Intelligence...not by a long shot.

Have to disagree on this one. The cat did make a bad move, considering the fawn, but cats will play with deer (and the other way around also...) as I've seen my cat and 2 young deer (button bucks) chasing each other around my back yard and playing. This went on for over 45 minutes, with several events of each one following the other, and making "mock" charges. One of the deer kept "stomping" the ground, and making advances, and my cat just hid near a tree. When the deer walked away, my cat would just follow him. During this time, the deer did the same to the cat, following him when the cat tried to walk away. I understand deer will run into cattle playing, but I've not personally witnessed that, just been told this. That deer would never had gotten a hold of that cat anyway. Cats are just to fast, and can turn on a dime, at least compared to the deer. Now if the deer had caught it with a hoof, well, different story I'd say. That cat was being awfully aggressive about checking out the fawn, but the fawn was in no danger from the cat. The dog was a different story though....

I was a bit shocked by the ending. E.g.,....where the dog starts to get stomped on. All mother animals have a strong protection instinct for their young. The classic one being the mother bear and her cubs,....as the ol' saying goes,..."NEVER get between a mother bear and her cubs." There's been enough cable/outdoor/Animal Planet shows that graphically display the results what a mother bear can do to a wandering hiker.
But getting back to the deer and the dog,....I'm not sure why the dog would try to investigate the fawn,.....seeing the mother deer close by. I thought most dogs know how to add two plus two when it comes to their personal safety.
Maybe someone can shed more light on this........

Mama deer don't really see cats as a threat. We're up to four fawns ( see "Got Milk?" thread on page 2 ) so far this year and our cat mingles freely....
Dogs, on the other hand, ( like wolves and coyote) have long been predators of fawns and Mama deer know this all too well.
I think the dog in the video was one of those friendly / dufus / types who was just a little too curious.........

Cats evidently have more maneuverability than dogs! Did you that kitty? Two hard 12 G turns in about 0.5 seconds, zig-zagging like heck. Kitty got away, dog got thrashed. :icon_lol:

The cat was awesome though. How it went all over the fawn in the beginning and at least punched back. :d
