my .cfg file was missing an entry for a fuel tank...so I copied that line from my Christen Eagle .cfg and now I have gas and can start the engine.

Before - I could not add fuel in the payload / fuel screen because the tab for fuel was not highlighted...no clickie no gassie

The plane flies now - but is very twitchie...

Just like the real Pitts. It's been said that one only has to think about what they want to do and the Pitts will do it .

I'll take a look at the new files - but unless your original airfile was off in the takeoff and taxi envelopes I'll probably just use the corrected fuel tank info...

also - you might look at the mainwheel contact points..my mains take turns sinking into the tarmac after applying the wheelbrakes...unless I've blown the tires ar made a flat spot on 'em

i have receive this from heywooood(this time i wrote fine) so seems only fuel was real problem, i have added that line to the aircraft.cfg so no other problems will be for next customers.

I had made the old mistake of using FULL throttle on takeoff which is unnecessary with the powerful and lightweight Pitts - I have changed MY flying approach to this plane and it is fine for me.

Also - when I tried the new.cfg - for some reason I could not switch between the different paints in the free flight selection window...since really the fuel tank was all I needed and the coordinates you used are the same as the ones I borrowed from the Christen Eagle - I just switched back to your original .cfg with the fuel tank line added.

as to the contact points - yes the dirt around the field and FSX's 'level airfield' mesh is likely the problem - coupled with the Pitts very low wheel pants as related to the tires...very little clearance there. so thats no real problem either.

heywooood
November 15th, 2008, 17:14
sorry icarus - I had typed this long post with all of that and the forum hiccupped and booted me out....:banghead:

yes - that is all correct - I am heywooood and I approve that message

This is an excellent airplane that flies just as you would expect it to - very powerfull - very light - very sensitive - and very well reproduced by icarusgold!

heywooood
November 15th, 2008, 17:16

just add the fuel tank line from my earlier post and you are good to go.

icarus
November 15th, 2008, 17:27
happy that is all ok...all work making flight dinamics was then fine...i will use then same method for our gloster gladiator..another aircraft on the way after i will promote much more the pitts (if i can stay far from fsx because i like to fly it a lot especially on his scenery)

Who want a redbull scenery with pylon air races for the redbull version? Free for our customers of course.

yes... i have added 2 smoke effects and that looks as the original smoke in youtube videos...i have also registered the starter engine and rpm sound from youtube original video when is possible hear the original pitts sound. Then i have modified frequencies and removed disturbs with an audio editor program. Do not know why but it sounds great especially in the fsx acceleration version.

icarus
November 15th, 2008, 17:37
did you try to go up at high fastness cut off engine and reverse yoke? it's fun.

Just had my first flight with the Pitts. This little plane is FUN !!! I don't know if any of the rest of you have tried knife-edge flight yet but.... It appears, true to the real Pitts, this one can maintain sustained knife-edge :applause: I don't recall any other aerobatic plane in fsx that can do this ! And I do mean sustained, level flight knife-edge !!

Just a couple small issues, the rudder pedals appear to be animated backwards and it would have been nice if they would have included the prop rpm control like the real S-2B, but overall this was $20.00 well spent :ernae:

I'll probably start a repaint tomorrow, is there any way to change the color of the canopy frame? I think it may be in the Pitts_interior.dds file, the 3 horizontal white stripes???

I just did a quick glance at the paint kit and it looks to be laid out very well for fast repaints

Its got a great sound file too....I'll have to check that knife edge.

It stalls nicely and does the hammerhead as well as the Eagle.

I still haven't checked the scenery it came with...maybe later.

about the interior paint - if you mean the canopy spreader that crosses between the fore and aft cockpits and is currently white - I agree - I think it needs to match either the canopy frame or the panel if possible.

I still need to work on the hammerheads, I can't seem to get enough fwd/right stick thrown in to keep it from pitching "up" on me :costumes:

I think I like the "spreader" white, it's the exterior that I'm looking to change. I want a nice shiny red Pitts, similar to G-STUB but with US registration #'s.

choice the flight at dusk its fun fly with people's flashes...you have to add the content of the flight folder inside pitts folder to your c:/Documents/Flight Simulator X files .....there all instructions inside .doc article into fsx main folder or pitts folder,it's called INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS.doc

there is also a layered PSD for made new skins, always inside pitts main folder..called paintkit.

I think Bruce means when during a flight, you access the drop-down Aircraft menu and then switch to another plane and continue the flight in that new plane. I do that often during flights and I have switched through all the Pitts without a hitch.

yes new contact point was quite good but i still prefer old one...but no problems i can make 10 different aircraft.cfg on request. about stinson was one that i looked at...we have on next release gloster gladiator that is 95% finished then a dragon rapide, gotha 229 and boeing p26 peashooter + a westland lysander then i am project free...i thought also about hurricane spitfire and of course more golden age and racers....i would also make the savoia marchetti 55 floatplanes flying with other 22 sm55 to chicago. But it's a not easy project...if i can find enough info a stinson it's possible.

The only way I can start the engine is with Ctrl-e. The starter and the starter switch will turn the engine over but not start it. Is there a fuel cutoff switch?

The fuel line is in the aircraft.cfg.

Thanks,

then you have some settings creating the problem..all other people here had the problem without the line..it was added to solve and included with the new installation...if you read all post here you will see how goes with that problem.i never use ctrl e to start...just move the key for long time.

Icarus,

It appears the problem may be with the start switches. Using Ctrl-e, the switches stay activated until the engine starts. If I click on the switch it only stays up momentarily. Not long enough for the engine to start. I remember this being a problem with another plane instl which had to be fixed. I can't remember what the fix was though.

The fix is the top line.

i have received this from a customer...with few point to emprove he says:

it flies very well, with just the amount of twitchiness that you would expect from a Pitts. Loops, both inside and out, were performed with ease, and it does a really authentic spin, as well as a flat spin. The nose tends to drop a little more than it should in an axial roll, but it flick rolls excellently. I think that it is a little overpowered, and that probably explains why I haven't been able to do a good tail slide or wing over yet, but practice makes perfect

really happy about Pitts flies well so all weeks testing were well spent.

Hi Icarus, I still haven't been able to find where to texture the canopy frame. I changed the color on the 3 white areas I thought may have been it, but the frame still stayed white. It almost looks like the frame may not have been UV mapped to allow texturing. Would it be possible if this is the case to get an updated mdl to allow texturing for the frame?

Here are a couple photos to show what I'm talking about: Notice on this one how the "spreader" bars are white, but the frame is red

http://www.flickr.com/photos/kamuishiro83/2591475056/

and this one where the windscreen frame and canopy frame is red.

Icarus,

Changing the starter torque value didn't help me. When I first load the plane the only way I can get it started is to do a Ctrl-E. I can then shut the engine down and restart with no problem using the starter switch. Then if I shut down FSX and restart, the problem is there again and I have to go the Ctrl-E process again. This is no real problem but it shouldn't be this way. It appears like it is not getting fuel. After starting with Ctrl-E I shut down, turned all of the switches off and then saved the flight. The next time I started FSX I loaded the saved flight and all started normally.

This is a wierd problem for me as no one else seems to have this problem.

Any more ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

that is very strange with the new torque setting should start immediatly...i suppose there are some settings in your fsx making the problem, are you using max realism or a payload fuel manager? or some other addons? recently i have also sent a review copy and this problems wasn't reported...also the other customers buying didnt report it....seems to me it's something related to your setting ...i will try if i can help you in some way.

The next time I started FSX I loaded the saved flight and all started normally.

perhaps i m near the problem...but you have this problem loading our flights and on free flight no or the inverse?

THibben

Icarus,

Solved it. Didn't realize there were other panels associated with the program. Under panel views I found the pop up for the fuel selector and trim panel. I knew it had to be fuel but couldn't figure how to turn it on.

I may have missed it in the text files or some other instructions.

One other question. What is the toggle switch titled "Starter" for? It also won't stay in the start position.

Sorry for the confusion.

Tom

icarus
November 17th, 2008, 08:07

Roger

This is the first part of the patch.
This patch should be out this weeks or beginning next week then gloster gladiator, dragon rapide, boeing p26 peashooter, lysander and eagle II.

On other variations you can have the number "1" to the left of the number "2" and yes, there is a single "1" visible too.

BUT even if the "2" is left of or above the "1" - they are in the correct orientation that we read them (i.e. whoever the pilot was, he's pasted the numbers on upside down) :d

LOL...the 1/2 is mounted on a tab that sticks below the flat portion of the Gauge Board and interferes with (1) getting to the circuit breakers, and (2) catches on your pant legs, kneeboard, and about everything else that comes near. The first pilot has turned the tab to the side to avoid this. The second pilot has bent the "2" under (or removed it), and the third pilot has turned the tab upside down.

ok - so there is an update for the Pitts coming soon - with new EagleSkinner paints and some other alterations - but the icarusgold website was spammed and so we are waiting for thatto be cleared up and a few more of the new files to be packaged for download....is that it then?

And we are waiting until icarus will have it all ready and then post here with the link...and we are to re-download the entire Pitts plane file - is that correct?

And Chris B has to wait until thats done before he can release these splendid new paints ? or will some of them be included in the re-release?

icarus

Looking good! IT's working well...

AND FOLKS! Take note of the "altered envelopes" for better metallic shine properties. The new envmpas are good - but

MAKE A BACKUP OF THE ORIGINALS FIRST

and then try flying other aircraft and see if you like the effect there.

Remember - MAKE A BACKUP, because if you don't and don't like the new ones (as if anyone wouldn't) you may have to re-install FSX.

Oh... did I tell you?

MAKE A BACK UP

the new metal effect are not added to the installer...its a separate winzip file...you have to install manually this to avoid to overwrite the originals if you dont 'want..also if needed i have always the original ones...just ask support and i will send old ones.

Thanks Anneke! And now that I have the "final" textures I can actually tidy up now. Also I have finally found out where the "moving prop" texture is mapped, so I can have chrome spinners both with engine running and with engine still.

But those are all trade secrets... do you really think I'll give those away?

Lovely! Icarus I noticed that switching the fuel selector either to left or right (tank) causes the engine to quit.

Moreover I would love to see actually see the level of fuel in the 'fuel' gauge i.e. fuel line. And I miss the trim controls and prop control.

But lovely aircraft:jump:

i am sorry and do not know your configuration but actually also because i have maked many test, all works correctly...the fuel selector inside the virtual cockpit changing tank do not cut off the engine...the fuel selector in the pop up window cut the engine in cut off position, the propeller are also inside the panel windows..if you just look at them.also the trim are inside window panel, there 4 window trim, propeller, gps and fuel selector. actually i am working on the gloster gladiator and expansion pack for pitts. i have just remaked another flight with pitts and noone of the problems reported happened on my computer...probably it depends by other factors.

Some news and a tip.

The tip first:

If ever you are offered a global envmap or similar for a particular aircraft, you do not need to move it to the textures folder and go through all that bother of backing it up.

Simply drop the new global envmap in that particular aircraft's texture folder. FSX looks there first for modified FSX texures.

Now, two update screenshots - I am working with the latest release and creating a complete new set of textures and bumpmaps. Maybe you can see on the two pictures below, there is less "orange peel" paint effect. Whenever I see FS painters use that technique to get around the poor reflection rendering in FS, it makes my toenails curl. :costumes: I mean... no self respecting painter will deliberately cause orange peeling when he's spraying a plane or a car....

Anyway, now that we have the update, I shall prepare the new skins.

Oh yes - the plane now has hinges for the engine cowlings too...

Well I'm sorry Icarus but my question was aimed at modelling in the VC not with pop-up windows, so indeed you did not respons to my question but I understand now that in the VC you need to activate the popups.

Okay clear but my question was aimed at why didn't you model those controls in the VC? I'm a VC nut so I'm hoping to have everything around in the VC.

I too wonder what is your problem Anneke. Your background gives no indication as to who you are, how old you are or where you come from (what do you have to hide?). Icarus has come from nowhere on the Fs radar to two very nice aircraft combined with top customer support. So what's your problem? Is it because Icarus won't do exactly as you want? Ok then show us what you can make for $20 in FsX:banghead:

CBris

On the other hand, let's take a step back and look at the situation a bit differently...

I use an external joystick, I have a keyboard which I use for various functions such as operating the radios.

I have my trim, mixture and prop levers on the joystick and a throttle under my left hand...

I am sitting inside a TINY cockpit in an aerobatic aircraft. My head and shoulders are up against the edge of the coaming.

Do I really want to see my knobs and levers?

Can I?

In the real world, these levers, knobs and buttons are out of my sight. If I (as a pseudo aerobatic pilot) look at anything other than what's outside my perspex, then I am going to be in some pain...

OK, that is a bit more than necessary, but in the case of the Pitts, I would suggest that accuracy of the dynamics are most essential for the pilot and the exteriors for the screenshooter.

Hi all,

My name is Anneke 38 old woman married and two children from Germany living in Hamburg. In real life I'm a software developer working on ERP systems. And in my free time a UL RPL pilot. So nothing to hide. (very odd presumption BTW Roger) No offence here but although see that Icarus is very supportive I asked a few questions about the fuel selector and the prop control and missing trim control in the VC and indeed Icarus replied that you supposed to use the 2D pop ups. But somehow some misunderstanding crept in our communication because the real purpose of my support question was aimed at trying to understand as to why Icarus did not model the prop control in the VC. (there is a blue control with a sign 'prop' but this is actually carb heat) The reason for asking? Well I know from experience that IRL your 'feel' the controls but in the sim I use the peripherals and the visual (both inside and outside the cockpit) for control of the plane. All good models from other developers (even MS default) has the VC accurate and I hope somehow in the future that this great Pitts from Icarus will be perfect as well (from the above mentioned stand point)

Again all thanks for replying, but right now I will not buy from Icarus again, not with regard to Icarus but because the way he designs and seems not to give any explanations but seems to start flaming in his reactions.

I apologize for all the turmoil and will shut up now :kilroy: ..but continue to contribute to the forum if possible.

Hi Anneke,
No the presumption was not "odd". I have administered many fora and the oddest thing is when members withold much information about themselves. Historically they are usually the biggest trouiblemakers. So thanks for being open in your last thread about who you are.
In all my experience regarding developers of flightsim products, few come close to Icarus Gold's attempts to please their customers. So with that information in mind you may understand why I am utterly amazed that you consider Icarus to be guilty of ignoring your requests while they have answered most of all the other suggestions for updates almost instantly.
So I see Icarus Gold will have to manage without your custom...I for one hope they manage to survive without it it.
