A Boeing B-17E Flying Fortress that landed at Pearl Harbor on December 7 1941 during the Japanese attack has been recovered from a jungle marsh in New Gueine and is now in Long Beach California, there are plans to restore it to flying condition. The plane was almost nearly intact.

Cheers

It's always good when a significant type is brought back. And to be one with that history attached makes it all the more important.

This plane is mentiond in the new book "Fortress Rabaul." The plane was damaged on one of the first raids to Rabaul. The plane, due to damage, didn't have enough fuel to get over the Owen Stanly Mountains to refuel at 7 Mile Stip at Port Moresby, so the crew made a forced landing in the swamp and then escaped on foot back to Port Moresby.
