I downloaded this today off of AVSIM, because it looked interesting, but once I got it installed, THEN I see that there is a time restriction on operating time, unless you get it registered! Now my eyes ain't what they used to be at age 55, but I don't see anywhere in the description about this, or I probably would NOT have downloaded/installed it. Why do the developers deceive us like this?????? BS.

FS Real Time v1.88 (for FSX, FS2004, FS2002, FS2000, FS98, CFS, and CFS2) is made to keep Flight Simulator's UTC (Zulu/GMT) time and date in sync with the Real World. It can maintain either the current Real Time, or an offset (+/-) so you can fly at any variation from Real Time. Changed in this version is a small rearrangement in the setup in which the "flight simulator selections" setup screen and the "optional packages to install" setup screen appear. This new arrangement means that the "optional packages to install" screen can now filter out what packages are not needed and recommend only those packages that should be installed based on the flight simulator selections that were checked on the previous screen. This also allows the selections from the "flight simulator selections" screen to be remembered if the user returns to that screen after clicking "next." Also a bug was fixed where FS Real Time would report that it had connected to FSUIPC through WideFS even though the simulator it connected to is on the same computer instead of a WideFS network connection. Additionally, numerous minor code efficiency enhancements pertaining to the startup of FS Real Time were implemented. An updated FS Real Time icon is also new in this update. Lastly, FS Real Time now includes FSUIPC4 v4.40 and FSUIPC v3.85.

If you look down in the description box on the Avsim page for that RealTiime download where it says license it says "Shareware, Time Limited".

It's right there in the same box that tells you how big the file is etc.

Thanks FAC257,

I obviously missed that. To be honest, I don't usually even look at that box, except to see the creator's name, in the case of scenery or aircraft.

A pity though.

Thanks again.

I started using FSRealTime about 3 years ago and swore by it for FS9. I upgraded to the FSX version when FSX first came out, but stopped using it almost immediatly.

There's something different going on with FSX that makes FSRealTime both a nuisance on one hand and IMO un-neccesary on the other hand.

When FSRealTime does its auto-sync time update at whatever time interval you set, it appears to cause complete chaos with FSX's AI traffic.

If your at a busy airport when the update happens you'll see all of the AI traffic either instantly disappear or shift to new parking places. I'm pretty sure FS9 did this also but I don't remember the time update being quite so dramatic to the AI when on the ground.

There is also the issue of FSX's AI "hangover" for lack of a better word. Somewhere in FSX's warped mind it remembers AI traffic even if there is no active AI traffic file. I'm not sure how long this hangover lasts but with FSRealTime in action it can create unusual situations where you'll see a dozen or more of the very same aircraft flying almost exaclty the same flight path. I've been at 30,000' on cruise and had a whole fleet of CRJ's cross my path all moments apart all on the same flight plan and headed to the same location. The only explanation I could ever come up with is that everytime FSRealTime does it's auto-sync it creates one more of those aircraft at the time and place it was supposed to be at. After a few hours of updates, it turns into a squadron. :)

I never saw that effect using FSRealTime in FS9. As soon as I stopped using the FSX version the mystery squadrons and duplicate AI aircraft stopped appearing.

The other hand that I mentioned is that it doesn't appear to me that FSX looses as much time as FS9 did during long flights. Even after a full day of non-stop flying, it's still off but not by much. I've just made a habit of updating the time by the few minutes if neccessary as part of my pre-flight just before my next take-off.

Thank you so much for your explanation. Most appreciated!
