Thanks folks - great set of screenies there - shows her off well :)
Worth mentioning, this is modelled on the actual aircraft as she is today and, being a Terrier 2, doesn't have a sparkling performance and is also somewhat tail-heavy. BTW - it's for FS9 so any 'funnies' seen in FSX are to be expected (especially as I don't run FSX).

Just a small, but important point, CBFS at http://www.cbfsim.org/ (http://www.cbfsim.org/) is not CBF at http://classicbritishfiles.com/ (http://classicbritishfiles.com/) which is where these Austers etc are stored. Two different sites with a common interest in all things classic.
Any comments regarding CBFS stuff should be posted to their forum, any regarding our CBF stuff is to be posted in the Site Support forum on our site where it'll definitely be seen and answered - we don't tend to search daily through all other sites for such queries.

I just went to install the Auster Terrier and my zip file is corrupted.

Does anyone know whether this aircraft is still available anywhere?

Normally David Molyneaux makes his models available via Flightsim.com as well. There are several of Dave's Austers available there, including civil models. I don't know enough about Austers to judge whether the Terrier is among them.

I just had a quick look, mainly AP09's there.
I'm sure that I have the whole lot of them.. I'll look..

Ok, I found it in my sim, now to find the zip! I'll do it a bit later.. Work calls!

I also have the ambulance, glider, T7 floats, A)P6, 9, 11, Beagle Husky, Agricola, .....
(I have 6 portable drives to go through, I'm sure that I zipped them all together..)

It is good to know we have a back-up librarian. I have burned half the internet on CDs, from which the majority is so old they simply don't work anymore :banghead:

Although the Auster is a nice aircraft, from which we have some great models by Dave Molyneaux and Dave Garwood, my knowledge about Austers doesn't go much further than the fact we Dutch flew the Auster from 1944 (as part of the RAF) until 1954. But I do have some knowledge about 1/72 Airfix model I did build 50 years ago..... (I can remember I flew Dave's versions of this model).

I've been saving all my downloads since the very early days, & have stuff from sites that have long disappeared. I also have duplicates as well, as sometimes it's quicker to download something that catches my eye than to try find where & on which portable drive I've saved things to.. It's almost like finding an old friend again.

Shessi, If I have what the guys (& gals, if any) are looking for, & if they have disappeared off the internet, it's a pleasure to share FS2004 stuff. It's all part of the maybe forgotten developer's legacy to pass on. The more we remember FS2004 stuff, the better & longer it lives on.

Dave Molyneaux (Molyned) is a member here, and since Classic British Files disappeared he normally uploads his files to Flightsim.com. Dave Garwood's models are available at Classic British British Flight Sim, which is still up.

You can always ask, as both are active members here, but I assume when they wanted to have their file in the library here they would have done that already in the past.

Auster 6B / Beagle Terrier - civil conversion of the Auster 6

opportunity to mention that it's 9 years,yes,9 years to the day that Ry Draiggoch AKA Leif Harding
passed away suddenly at his home in NorCal.

Leif was pretty instrumental as I remember at the time in persuading Dave to do those wonderful Auster variants.

As we have a fresh librarian I will ask his opinion. Perhaps he can add the individual files in a less time consuming way.

I'm afraid I have no time at the moment to go digging the files out and may not get around to sorting these files out straight away as we have just lost a family pet. My eldest daughter's lovebird 'Blue'.

Description: The Auster models M - VL522 & N - VL523 were built to a Ministry specification A2/45 calling for an updated A.O.P. aircraft. It was to carry a pilot and observer, camera equipment and armour plating under the crew.
Other requirements were for it to be extremely manoeuvrable with good low speed handling near the ground and short takeoff & landing characteristics,
The first prototype, model M, had a 160 h.p. D.H. Gypsy Major 31 engine. After many modifications to the design, it proved to be underpowered, so a second prototype,
model N appeared fitted with a 240 h.p. D.H.Gypsy Queen 34.
The handling of the aircraft was very poor and after military trials, no orders were placed so the project was abandoned. The two aircraft went to R.A.F. maintenance units
and were later disposed of.
Other than a 3-view drawing produced from the works general arrangement drawing and a few b/w photos and notes, nothing else exists to aid the modeller.
VL522 is shown here in its silver finish as it appeared at the SBAC show at Farnborough in 1948. VL523 is in its standard Army camouflage paint.

Description: The Auster Agricola was an agricultural aircraft designed and built for applying top dressings and fertilisers; it could also be used as a sprayer. It was made in particular for the New Zealand
market after a visit and study made by Auster's chief designer concluded there was a particular need for such an aircraft.
However by the time the aircraft entered production, the market had declined and so only 8 of the aircraft were sold.

Description: The company began in 1938 at the Britannia Works, Thurmaston near Leicester, England, as Taylorcraft Aeroplanes (England) Limited, making light observation aircraft designed by the Taylorcraft Aircraft Corporation of America. 1,604 high-wing Taylorcraft Auster monoplanes were built during World War II for the armed forces of the UK and Canada. The name change to Auster occurred on 7 March 1946, when production shifted to Rearsby aerodrome, also in Leicestershire. All designs were evolved from the early Taylorcraft with a sprung skid or tailwheel beneath the fin (except for a low-wing aircraft called the "Agricola" designed for crop-spraying; only a few of these were completed). When the company was merged into Beagle Aircraft in 1960 the high-wing design was developed still further as the Terrier and, with a nosewheel - the Airedale.

The Auster was extensively used in the British colonies after WWII for a variety of activities such mail delivery, VIP transport, and joy rides at town carnivals. Nearly 4000 were built, many of which are still flying.

There appear to be many Auster types built but some were just different engine varients - see for example the Aiglet Trainer

This sim model is based on a particular aircraft - G-AMMS c/n 2745 was built in 1951. It is fitted with a Blackburn Cirrus Major 3 engine and is hence an Aiglet Trainer J-5K . It is owned by Mr Richard Webber and is still flying regularly around the U.K.

I had the pleasure of flying in G-AMMS a few (10 !) years ago at Eggesford farm airstrip including some 'hands-on' experience .

Now for the 1M$ question, does anyone know, you too Dave, if there was an Auster AOP-5 that Dave did.?

My memory has gome blank, but I'm sure that I read somewhere that there was, by clicking a panel switch the panel changes.

Or have I been smelling too old cockpits?

Or was it the Mk5?

Released today over at http://www.britsim.com/ is the latest Auster variant to emerge from Messrs Molyneaux, Horsey and myself (and the beta team) - the Auster Mk.5.

More of this variant were produced than any of the others and it served with the RAF from Normandy to Berlin and with countless other Air Forces around the world.

What makes this model so unique is that it is modelled from one currently flying today and Dave Molyneaux has been cleverly installed a wartime configuration and its modern day version into the same aeroplane. With a flick of a switch, the external and internal views completely change showing the various modifications made over the years. There cant be many other aeroplanes created in the simulator world that have this rather unique function.

Are you continuing to upload all of your Austers? its just that I have had a request to e-mail mine, & it might be better (because your listing seems to be complete & mine isn't) if my correspondent waited until all of yours were available. BTW my listing of Auster Mk5 snds is only the sound file, so might be a lycoming?
I always thought that the Mk5's were only fitted with Lycomings.

I have uploaded them all, individually zipped in a single large zip file, that Jamie is writing the descriptions & adding a picture. So it will take a bit of time for him to do the balance of 20, adding descriptions & pictures. He has to load them into the sim to take a screenshot. Lycoming it is..

We will just have to wait until Jamie has done them all, I'd rather do that, to get 'clicks' on the library downloads, than to send the files out on request. Unless....

The Alpine was a hybrid aircraft based on the fuselage of the J/5 Aiglet Trainer fitted with the wings from the J-1 Autocrat. The prototype was converted from an Auster J-5L Aiglet Trainer.

Description: The Auster AOP.6 (Auster Model K) was designed as a successor to the Taylorcraft Auster V, it had a strengthened fuselage, increased all-up weight and a 145 hp (108 kW) de Havilland Gipsy Major 7 engine. It had a different appearance to the wartime Austers due to the lengthened landing gear struts (due to the larger propeller), and external non-retractable aerofoil flaps.

An initial production run of 296 were completed for the Royal Air Force in 1949. A second batch was produced from 1952 with a total delivered of around 400. Some aircraft ordered by the Royal Air Force aircraft were diverted to the Belgian Air Force (22) and the Royal Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force (2). New aircraft were delivered to Royal Canadian Air Force, South African Air Force, and the Arab Legion Air Force (Jordan).

A dual-control training version of the AOP.6 was produced, 77 serving as the Auster T.7 (Auster Model Q). These flew alongside the AOP.6 in the AOP squadrons.
In 1955 two T.7 aircraft were modified for use on the 1956 Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonwealth_Trans-Antarctic_Expedition), being designated Auster Antarctic (Auster Model C4). The aircraft had extra radio equipment, larger tail surfaces, the ability to be fitted with floats or skis as required and a bright yellow finish to increase visibility against the snow and ice.
The aircraft was gradually replaced with the Auster AOP.9 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auster_AOP.9) from 1955 and surplus aircraft were converted to civilian use, first as the Auster 6A and later as the Beagle A.61 Terrier (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beagle_Terrier).

Description: Three-seat AOP machine with a 260 hp Continental IO-470-D 6-cylinder horizontally opposed more powerful engine, that raised the maximum speed to 142 mph (228 km/h) and the empty weight to 1,806 lb (816 kg). Apart from the engine, the AOP.11 was almost identical to its predecessor. Early in its career (photo, right), the undercarriage had spats, though these were later removed.[15] Only one, a converted AOP.9 was produced, making its first flight on 18 August 1961 with serial XP254. A year later it was registered to Beagle aircraft, that had taken over Auster in 1960, as G-ASCC where it was known as the Beagle Mk 11, the E.3 or as the A.115. It was sold into private hands in 1971.

A fully modelled Auster AOP-11 based on an aircraft still flying today here in the U.K.

The Auster J/2 Arrow is a 1940s British single-engined two-seat high-wing touring monoplane built by Auster Aircraft Limited at Rearsby, Leicestershire, England.

The Arrow was designed as a successor to the pre-war Taylorcraft Plus C monoplane. A development aircraft, a side-by-side two-seater first flew in 1946 powered by Lycoming O-145-B3 flat four air-cooled engined.

Import restrictions on the sale in the United Kingdom (UK) of American-built engines resulted in most of the 44 aircraft completed being exported, mainly to Australia. In later life, examples were re-imported to the UK, where several examples remained active in 2011.

Description: The Husky was manufactured by Beagle Auster and was the last of the traditional Auster breed. This aircraft is still flying in the U.K.

The Beagle Husky (originally, the Auster D.5 and initially designated the Auster J/1Y) was a three-seat British light aircraft built in the 1960s which originated from a Portuguese Air Force requirement for a liaison/training aircraft, a development of the Auster Alpha. It first flew as an Auster design in January 1960, but that company was taken over by Beagle Aircraft in September that year. It was initially available with a 160 hp Lycoming O-320 engine as the Auster D5/160.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the link & I think that a lot of us, as time goes by, forget about the classics, and it takes something like this to rekindle the hobby.
It happened to me, I got bored of the usual point to point flying over the years, the I found Garry Smith's site, chatted & become a beta tester for him, until he passed on, & I've now ended up with 8 FS2004 installs, themed from Vintage to Space installs.
We gotta keep the legacy alive!!

You dont want to do an Airdale for us?? We need a tripod to complete the series!

There is an Airdale available by Marty Strong on most of the major sites - pretty sure in works in FS9 as well as FSX.
I did see that, thanks, but as this is a DaveM collection...

Ah, the Airdale. I recall considering that when I was building the Auster series. I dismissed it as being too far removed
from the Auster concept and also being a resounding failure. So, sorry, no, not by me.

Description: Following similar conversions of Taylorcraft TG-6 aircraft in America, the British Taylorcraft Aeroplanes company converted an Auster lll into the model 'H' glider. Sources
differ here - it seems that a Taylorcraft model D fuselage was converted - maybe then fitted with Mk III wings c/w flaps ?.
This was intended for instructional duties at Army gliding schools as a primary trainer.
Whereas previous British training gliders had been specifically designed and built for the job, the model 'H' was an example of a converted powered light aircraft.
This was achieved by replacing the engine and cowl with a lengthened front containing a seat and controls etc. for a pupil pilot.
A slightly larger fin was fitted and the undercarriage shortened.
The prototype was first flown in July 1943 . Although it was painted in trainer glider colours and with a 'P' on the fuselage, no other marking were evident.
There are no reliable records of any production quantities being built.

Description: As the end of the Second World War approached the designers at Taylorcraft decided to develop a tourer version of the robust and reliable Taylorcraft Auster Model J AOP.V observation aircraft series. An Auster 5, registered G-AGOH, was modified to take a 100 hp (75 kW) Blackburn Cirrus II engine for trials. At the same time a prototype aircraft was built designated the Taylorcraft Auster V Series J/1 Autocrat. The long name was not used as the company changed name to Auster Aircraft Limited and the aircraft became known as the Auster J/1 Autocrat.

The designation J/1 derived from the progenitor Model J, which was the Auster AOP.V

Have a zip for the J5B Autocar and also one for the J5B Autocar Gypsy. Cannot see any difference. There is also a J5B Autocar Lycoming, so presume the 'Gypsy' was added to differentiate? Will upload the 'gypsy' and the 'lycoming' and if anyone knows if the other is actually different will upload later.
