Hello everybody, I have a small problem and am hoping for a bit of help.

I have a brand new computer (upgraded) and a brand new fresh install of FSX Gold pack.
Upgrades: ASUS P5Q pro turbo motherboard; Intel Core2 Quad Q8300; 500GB HD
The things that I didn't upgrade yet is the GeForce 8500GT, 4GB ram

The newest video drivers have been downloaded and installed.

Can somebody suggest what I should do to overcome the one to three second pauses that I'm experiencing?

The AI traffic can be 100% turned off with 'clear skies' and it still happens.

Overclock your processor, making sure it is stable.

Follow this guide http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041

Upgrade your video card when you can.

That guide really smoothed out my experience quite a bit.

Ram good, processor good, 3d card,... ouch!

85 is low end stuff no matter how much RAM the marketers bang on the thing.

As has been said if you are up for it, try and OC your CPU but your 3d card will be holding you back a little, esp if your running a larger screen at higher res.

Fly with the menu bar open (simply hit the Alt key)

Without it, my PC stutters. With is, smooth as glass

Thanks for the tip MenendezDiego, I'll give it a shot.

I know your right Lewis. I knew that the moment that I put it in here a couple of years ago when Ted said, noooooooooooo you didn't, did you? It hasn't gotten any better since then either.
But, I have to make the best of it until I can put something better in there.
(bummer for sure but thats life :173go1:)

Thanks for the link 2Low, that is a great cheat sheet for sure! I'm sure that we'll be able to get something smooth going on.

After my computer melt down, I lost a whole bunch of stuff when that drive quit spinning. That was one of them along with all the other tips and tricks that I had stashed away.

So how about some more tips for getting better FPS either in the CFG file or addons?
I remember that I had some better looking trees that were easier on the frames but I don't remember what it was.

Wasn't there a CFG entry that would allow for less autogen trees only?

Thanks again everybody!

One other thing you can try, which helped my stutters immensely on my new system is to download Nhancer from http://www.nhancer.com/ and use NickN's "tweak guide" from here

It takes a little time to set up, but the results are worth it.
