This bird has a lot of history.

Was it part of the original release or has someone painted it.

Man, I love that place. I'll be making my annual pilgrimage there in late June.

None yet. They have just about everything else but that one. Come to think of it, I've never seen one in person before. Did they chop them all up after the war?

Besides the Helldiver that has been operated by the CAF for many years, I know of two under restoration to flying condition at this time (just started recently - http://vulturesrowaviation.com/index.html), and one being restored, to complete flying condition, that will be static, at the Yanks Air Museum. I know that there are many that would like to see the Navy raise one of the known Helldiver wrecks, and restore it for the Pensacola Naval Aviation museum.

That's really a crying shame! The Helldiver contributed a lot to victory in the war and the Navy's official aviation museum really should have a SB2C in their collection.

But, you are right, they do not. I visited that museum many times when I lived in Navarre, FL. There was not one then and I seriously doubt one has been included since.

Helldiver (the member), I think you have a legitimate beef with the Navy on this one. Have you surviving SB2C veterans written to the Navy to rectify this obvious slight?

Holy cow! The men who flew that single aircraft earned two Navy Crosses and one DFC, and none of them had to die to earn them! That's some serious hardware, folks!
