Lets not forget today was the epic first carrier vs. carrier battle of all time. RIP CV-2 (and, shown here, CV-5...)

Thanks for the reminder.

Just five months after Pearl Harbor, it was the first real step to victory in the Pacific and one of the first examples of the importance of what we call SIGINT today. Commander Rochfort's combat intelligence team (Hypo) at Pearl Harbor through radio intercepts and code breaking, set up Admiral Fletcher's fleet just right to stop the IJN's operation to take Port Moresby. He would again do this for the Battle of Midway which followed a couple of months later.

It is also known as the first high seas naval engagement where none of the engaged ships saw each other and proved the concept of carrier air power to both sides.
