View Full Version : MM Out on the Rim
MM

Setting up the Hawker Hunter with external tanks so that it can make the Rim Run. (Also checking out the pilot who needs a refresher course in type.)
David Garwood's new FSX version of the Hunter is top drawer. Please accept our appreciation for the wonderful aircraft.

Glad you found something to fly!
Rumors? What rumors are we supposed to be spreading?
YPDN-WADB (Darwin-Bima)
Joining in on the adventure.
Down safely at WADB
Uneventful flight until having to thread between the volcanoes on to set up the final approach. More fun, that.

M- Your Duenna shows the destination as WRRB. FSX snafu?
M- Your Duenna shows the destination as WRRB. FSX snafu?
So it seems. (This is Bima which is WADB in FSX and WRRB in FS9. Not really a snafu...I believe this represents a redesignation of the ICAO code in between versions of FS.)
WADB-WIHH (Bima-Jakarta Halim)
Will try some night flying over the Rim of Fire.
Safely down at WIHH (Jakarta Halim).
Beautiful sunset and then starry skies. Got a snap of the sunset at takeoff. And then a quick view of Tambora, the massive volcano whose 1815 eruption was heard a thousand miles away. The sulfur released into the atmosphere caused 1816 to be the "Year Without Summer" in Europe and North America and produced the worst famine of the nineteenth century.

A night landing. (Happily, no photographers...)
Thanks, Paul. The Hunter does have classic lines. Dave Garwood has done a terrific job modeling it for FSX.

Safely down at VMMC.
Clouds all the way but got a look at Hainan Island in the South China Sea. Rumor has it that a Navy pilot landed there and stirred up a nest of PLA soldiers. Those same clouds obscured views of Macau and then a thick haze appeared on finals.
Quiet little Portuguese colony, this. A little zone for economic opportunities for those who seek them...

Classic Stonecutters approach--without the checkerboard in FSX. Here's a photo of the finals into 13 and then the Hong Kong skyline. Will take a motor launch over, pick up a green Roller and head for the Peninsula Hotel--the finest hotel east of Suez. Top drawer service, eh? A properly served English tea.

And now, the Republic of China and its (temporary) capital at Taipei. (Will be on lookout for the vital islands of Quemoy and Matsu.)
Safely down at RCSS
Taipei is a bustling city and represents for Chiang Kai-shek and the Kuomintang a "war time" capital of China. (The PRC seems to be in temporary residence on the mainland.) Whatever the current presidential dictatorship, one might guess that the place has a future...
