Anybody have any of the the Xtreme Prototypes X-15 series? If so, any comments??

Other than the reviews at Avsim and Flightsim, I can't seem to find any discussions on this product.

Thanks :ernae:

Man, I just hate it when I ask these hard questions and nobody has a response.
:bump::bump::bump:

Nobody in the FS 2004 community has tried out the X-15 package?? Hard to believe. :salute:

I'm sure you're not being ignored...
The X-15 was a groundbreaking research vehicle.
What would you do with it in FS9 though?
It went up under a B52, shot off into near-space at high speed, and landed very shortly thereafter.
That's it...:pop4:
I'd say the reviews tell you enough:
Some users may be put off by the lack of a virtual cockpit and custom sound set and the limits that are set on maximum Mach and altitude depending on which version of Flight Simulator you are using.
Perhaps FSX users might find more use for it...their world is round, not flat, and doesn't end 200,000ft short of the real plane's peak altitude.

Tell you what, have a go in a Cessna 150: slew up to 65,000ft and then run the sim at 32x speed, taking especial care with the landing :d

Thanks, Wing_Z. :jump:

No need to go up in a Cessna 150 at 65,000 ft. I picked up all 3 packages while they're bundled for $40.00. Poking holes in the sky at several times the speed of sound is kind of fun.

The review you quoted was of the first release. Two of the three packages of the current release do have a VC. I tend to like complex cockpits. Gliding to a deadstick landing onto a runway is a real challenge I have yet to master.

Yes, there is a limitation on altitude. Didn't notice if the world was flat or round as I was too busy flying the aircraft and trying to to make it back to the runway.

Anyways, I'm still interested in hearing from others about what they think. :mixedsmi:

Yeah I was flippant because you had no joy from other users - do you get a B52 in the package?

I don't have the X-15 package and don't plan to buy it at this time. One thing that's puzzled me about FS is the lack of rocket powered aircraft, or rather the lack of proper representation of rocket power in these aircraft. I readily admit I've no FS design experience beyond doing a simple repaint of J E Narcizo's Cessna 150 taildragger, but how hard could it be to work in a high thrust, specific impulse, burn time-limited rocket motor? Throttleable versions could still be represented by a turbojet, but something for the Bell X-1, early X-15's, and even old Me-163's and Opel RAK's should be do-able, shouldn't they?

One ship I enjoy flying is the freebie Martin-Marietta X-24A "Flying Potato" over at FlightSIm.com (x-24a04.zip (http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=72908)), but I'd love to see some FS9 versions of the HL-10 and M2F2. Once you get a handle on these "wobbly wonders" they can be lots of fun nailing deadstick landings at Edwards AFB.

I think one of the problems with FS9 is you can't get to the higher altitudes that the X-15 flew at.....

TommyYep. It only takes a few seconds to reach 100,000 ft. Wonder why? :salute:
