On July 4,1942 the AVG was disbanded and became the China Air Task Force.11 of the 16 AVG pilots who stayed left July 18,1942 leaving 5 to help Chennault. They had 51 fighters ( 31 P-40B&C's and 20 P-40E's) which only 29 were flyable.7 B-25's were also sent to the group for bombing.Their mission was to escort transports over the Hump, support Chinese Ground forces and stop the Japanese Air Forces.
The CATF was disbanded in March 1943 and had almost as impressive record as the AVG.Chennault harrassed the enemy by bombing airfields, harbors, attacking enemy ground forces and keeping the Japanese Airforces at bay.
The missions I'm doing follows them for their 9 month existance.I have 21 missions done so far with maybe 10 more to go.You will be flying the P-40 B,C & E during these missions. The missions will include you attacking enemy airbases, escorting B-25's as they attack airbases and Harbors. You will also do intercept missions, meet C-46's as they fly over the Hump and attack Japanese shipping in the Gulf of Tonkin. Some of the harbors that you attack will be at Haiphong,Hong Kong and Canton.
