In fact, I have yet to find a texture for the Acceleration Hornet that depicts a squadron that actually flies the F/A-18E. Once you get past the superficial resemblance, the F/A-18A and C actually look quite different from the F/A-18E.
However, the AerialFoundry F/A 18A-C is a superb FS2004 model that ports over into FSX almost perfectly. The AF HUD does however have problems in FSX (during high bank angles).
If you are unaware of the AF Hornet, I recommend that you download “hornet2” from FlightSim.com, and check it out. Although AerialFoundry is no longer in business, but their Hornet is still available for sale (in USN, Australian, Canadian and Blue Angels paint).
Has anyone ever successfully replaced the standard AF HUD with any of the Acceleration F/A-18E HUD’s? I have tried - without success (but the failure may have well been my lack of knowledge/technique).
Can anyone bring to my attention any FSX modifications for the AerialFoundry Hornet? I have been unable to find any, which is a real oversight, as I believe that the AerialFoundry model is an ideal candidate for some upgrades by our very talented members – and I most highly recommended it to you.

Hmm, might have to take another look at it. I had it installed in FSX awhile back and it had way to many issues as a port to keep it installed. Loved it in FS9 though.

Once the VRS Super Hornet is out, I don't think anyone will remember Aerialfoundry...

The VRS plane is just that good. :wiggle:

Dean was a master at the F-18 Hornet and a name well known in modeling circles because of his work until he closed his doors for good. It's a real loss for sure. I still have all his models but I haven't flown the Military stuff in a while, I seem to be stuck in the GA world for some reason, lol. I'll watch this thread thought to see what comes of the questions you asked.:salute:

I thought the Acceleration Hornet was a C, not an E:isadizzy:

Edit: Seems it's actually an A model.

The Hornet that comes with Acceleration is a "A" model. One way to tell the difference between a "A" and "C" version is the antenna behind the cockpit on a "A" is straight up and the one on the "C" is at an angel. There were a lot of issues with the AF Hornet that was ported over to FSX. For one the flight model was not accurate, found it to be very slow and sluggish almost as if your flying a school bus packed with bricks. The sound was that of the default Lear Jet. Engine smoke came off of wing tips. Plane was not to scale with other aircraft in FSX. Some of the aircraft issues I had fixed but over all the Hornet that came with Acceleration is the better version as of right now for the A or Alpha model IMHO.

Well, I had forgotten that I have a much reworked FDE which makes it fly pretty much as i remember it around the boat (and cleaned up the smoke issue). I also did put in Aaron's sound fles. If I could only figure out how to replace that pesky HUD!! Bill

I couldn't find mine I think I lost it when I had to install my new HD. But I had made so many modifications to it to where it flew decent. I do remember tinkering around with the HUD and getting the Acceleration HUD working. I'll try and find on my back CD's. When I find it I'll send you the steps I used.

I think the AerielFoundry model is best remembered for what it was; the best hornet for FS9, up until the release of the Superbug. I don't know about you guys, but after I installed the Superbug I pretty much never flew the AF model again. It's time has come and gone, and I just don't think there's a place for it in FSX. Too many issues, as a port over, and why bother when there's a fantastic FSX native version of the Superbug about to be released.
