View Full Version : Introducing the Panther Award

Those of you who have been around the Sim-Outhouse for some time will remember that the word “Panther” became a verb around here, as in “I Panthered again”. It means to “crash in spectacular fashion”, and was named after our esteemed administrator of the same name, because he did it so often, and posted great screen shots to prove it. In that spirit, we will hold a contest for the best “Panther!” Post pictures and write ups of your most creative/stupid crashes. The write up creativity will be a factor in determining the winner! At the end of the year the SOH Staff will nominate candidates for the award. The winners will get a prize, which is still TBA.

Panther is (was) also famous for his taste in muscular women ;-)

Okay, Okay, y'all can just give up now, I know the perfect picture to win this contest. Somewhere on the www. there has to be a picture of one of those muscle bound "babes" falling off the stage and "Panthering" on the floor....

When I find it, y'all are toast!:a1310::173go1:

OK, since you asked, here's a "Sh!t" moment that wasn't going to get a public airing, but fits the criteria for a Panther Award entry:

Yeah, "Acknowledge Ground Handoff. Send the Fire Brigade & a few Ambulances please." (And I'm normally very good at landing those Comets ).

Perhaps put in a caveat: all on board should survive the panther, otherwise this is headed into sicko territory.
I can already see photoshopped Concordes streaming flames and smoke, about to demolish small hotel buildings...

Well this thread died quickly, time to revive it with this botched TB-50 take-off; pulled back too hard, the tail hit the ground when the aircraft stalled and was ripped off!:

Do you know how many hours of expensive therapy you've undone by reminding me of those avatars? :kilroy:

Tom, just one thought; is there a danger here of encouraging the "You've Been Framed" effect, where people deliberately stage crazy/stupid stunts? Or is that not a worry?

Borrowed a nice Piper from the Royal Netherlands Air Force for a little holiday in the Isle - I mean Isles of Greece...

Flying from Santorini to Naxos we develop engine problems:

You can see nasty puffs of smoke sputtering out there :frown: !

But I successfully make a brilliant emergency landing on a beach on the airportless Island of Ios....

Only to overshoot and end up annoyingly wet...

All horribly realistic. I blame Aerosoft - their Super Cubs are excellent! ;)

That will be up to the judges. Consider me just "the messenger" at this point. If I remember right, I copied the text of my thread opener from a post in the Admin section.

Out for a little pleasure flight in Piglet's T-28. Unfortunately, the flight ended in a less than desirable fashion.

I've never faked an 'accident' deliberately. Would be grateful if anyone can explain how to get that aerosoft Piper engine to stop misfiring!

Believe it's caused by not being able to set the Starter to 'Both' - it stays on 'Start' and the only other option seems to be 'Off'.

Solution?

PS: You mean that people on "You've Been Framed" fake 'em? No! Surely not?

I can crash one well enough on my own during my normal flying. I don't have to stage one. ;)

If I recall it correctly there must be flames and smoke for a correct 'Panther'. Otherwise no dice!

That puts Ferry in the lead at the moment then! I've got Select FX (mainly for military blowings-up), but it's a bit, um, hit & miss. Some aircraft just seem to have more realistic accidents than others, don't they?

Trying to get this ball rolling again. Wozza's Gee Bee. I can't seem to consistently land it.

You can't land that plane - you have to fly it all the way to the ground!:isadizzy:
