If this is not the right area, mods please move....

For some reason when I select a file to download from here,Flightsim, simvation , anywhere-it does not ask me where I want to download to, what drive, folder etc.-Instead it goes directly to a temp folder that I can not find

It has always given me a prompt as to where I want it to download to before...
Any ideas what happen?

Nothing new downloaded, no updates recently

Strange

get fire fox, grab the addon "download them all" and have free download manager (no lost files) and ability to select your folder!! although simviation has a issue with download managers.

Disabling the Ability to Change the Default Download Directory

Added 2/21/00
If you want user's not to be able to change the Default Download Directory

Start Regedit
Go to HKEY_USERS \ .DEFAULT \ Software \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ Restrictions
Create a DWORD value called NoSelectDownloadDir
Give it a value of 1

Note: On my Win98 with IE5 this also didn't allow me to download any files.
System Administrators might want to include that as part of their configuration

How odd. I've been having the same problem for the past month. And it's been driving me crazy. Normally when I select something to download I get the pop up box asking me to save to whatever folder, but recently it's been automatically going to the temp folder as mentioned by papab. I don't know why it has changed.

Kind of you Tim to provide the instructiosn to change it back ie

but what do you mean by point 3? What is a string value? A folder?

Within the Internet Folder section I do have a sub folder titled 'Download', with these values:
(Default) REG_SZ (Value not set)
CheckExeSignatures REGF_SZ yes
RunInvalidSignatures REG_SZ 0x00000000 (0)

Does that have anything to do with it?

Cheers :)
