Hey all,

For those that live in Arizona, we have the EAA Classic Aircraft Flyin today at Casa Grande' municipal airport today. Online its called the Copperstate Flyin.

Tickets are $10.00 each, and should last at least until noon. It started yesterday. This will not be happening on Sunday, unfortunately. Why on Friday and Saturday, I'll never know...

I am really looking forward to this. Got my camera ready, my iPhone charged, spare batteries, bottled water. I want to see some classic Bellancas, Taylorcraft, Fairchilds, and anything else that can drag its tail properly!

I will be the overweight, gray eyebrowed nerd. See you there.

Roger that Eli.

Tons of batteries for the camera.

Bill

(Who would have thought that in the future, a camera would need batteries instead of film and light....??)

Made it back, uploaded pictures to the computer, sorted, uploaded to Flickr.

Man... I wish I was a better photographer. So much to see there. I did more gawking then shooting pictures. arrgh... ..

There was a P-51 mid series there, full WWII regalia, along with a mid series Thunderbolt (I beieve, early European theater) full WWII paint scheme, that were buzzing the field in fly-bys, low altitude, with a banking ascent departure each time. Watched the bird shut down at the front. What an awesome site...

I had my brother and mother with me. We were sitting down for a break and I noticed something really really odd. There were no teenagers. Perhaps 3. A huge crowd and no kids. Only small children in strollers or older people like myself and retired. Its as though kids have no interest in aviation anymore.

All photos from the event are at my pro Flickr account; here;

At the top right is a 'Slide Show' selection choice you can click on to see them in a nice slide show environment.

Just a heads up. Half of those photos were taken with my iPhone, the 5 Mega Pixel App.

:d

The other half with a digital HP camera, about 4 years old, 3 Mega Pixel

That thing has potential. I would redo the airfame and totally buff it out in a mirror finish and do a really cool hopped up VW engine with red valve covers, tear drop complete cover over the distributor cap, and a nicer rudder.

With that small of an airframe, I'll bet that thing is fast....

I wonder what the heck it is?

Found it...

Hummelbird, by a certain gentleman named Hummel. He was 80+ years old when he designed it. He is a famed engineer from WWII.

That little version there is from Coolidge.

You can find a ton of images on these on the web. Pretty famous little bird.

I am starting a new thread on it.

The Unknown plane is a Van's RV series bird. RV-6, RV-7 or RV-9 The RV-8 is a Tandem. The RV's are one of the most popular kit planes. Fairly quick, aerobatic and have surprising room inside for such a small plane. You can build em with either a sliding or flip forward canopy (like the one in the pic) and tri-gear or taildragger.

Thanks Brian,

I didnt think it was a Rans. There were some Rans taildraggers out there. Beautiful planes. Amaazingly, with Rans, they usually all are finished well by their builders, as though they have a blessing on them.. I havent seen a bad looking Rans yet.
