A while back I installed REX for FS9. It breathed new life into the sim and on the whole I think it's a great addon to own. I say on the whole, because there's just one thing I'm having trouble with. I just can't find any water settings that look anywhere near realistic. I've tried all sorts of combinations and have been left distinctly unsatisfield.

I have resorted to deselecting all water options in REX and reinstalling a program I used prior to installing REX, namely Zinerteks Ultimate Water Advanced. I was just wondering what other people, who use REX, have as their water settings?

AM, of all the features in REX-2004, my water is the worst! Totally unlike FSX, where I can get the colors I like. Even when I dial in my colors, the water in hi-detail mode looks terrible, all flashy, dark spots, really bad ocean.bmt that show stitching all over the place. I lower the water detail to low and land detail to high and all looks well, though the water has little to no reflection in said mode. I realluy should go in hi detail mode and take some screens and send them to Tim, they look atrocious on my unit, I would like to see what others have also.

I agree. They seemed to get everything else right with REX, but really dropped the ball with the water. I thinks it's a part of the program that really needs a major overhaul. At the end of the day, though, it's no biggie. There are plently of water texture replacements, both freeware and payware. For the time being I'll be sticking with those from Zinertek.

Ocean FX2 by Ed Truthan. it is the very best ocean and water updater: FlightSim library under FS2002 Utilities and Misc.
Filenames: oceanstx.zip, oceansfx.zip

The "tx" file contains texture replacements and the "fx" contains ocean effects, you load the Zip files into the base OceanFX intall and the program uses them as you set the settings.
Try it, it is one of the best yet.

I agree about Ocean FX2, tried tons of different water combos and like it best, make sure you get the front end mod for fs2004 that makes it easy to switch seetings at avsim

File Description:
Front-end for Ed Truthan's oceans effects and textures. Enables the user to select the desired waves and textures through the use of a Windows application. Compatible with both FS2002 and FS2004. Stand-alone version: requires OCEANSFX.ZIP and OCEANSTX.ZIP.

Well, I'm glad I ain't the only one who noticed this. I love REX, and what it's done. However, as mentioned, the water textures are pretty repetitive, unrealistic, and near default in quality.

I also have a glitch with my water texture tiles appearing when I approach St. Maarten in the FlyTampa scenery. I'm probably gonna email them and see if there's anything they can do. However again, as said before, it's not bad at the end of the day considering the awesome cloud, runway, taxiway, and other addon textures REX brings. Sun even looks better; dawn and dusk are really trippy red at moments. :d :ernae:
