In a weapon bgl could it be made to use only an effect for it alone, and not have the stock effect come into play? ckissling

Hi ckissling,

The effects are controled by the weapon DP file.

You could make an invisible weapon and as The B24 Guy says then use the DP to tweak the effects.

To say what I mean is that I made an fx effect for the Flak18 guns for
the stuka, that would eject the shells about 3 meters back from the
muzzel flash. The CFS2 fx_mzlflsh_m.fx ejects the shells about 1 meter
back. If I put it the DP file would it override the CFS2 effect?
If I rename it to the above name then ALL guns would eject 3 meters
back from the flash. Any ideas on how it could be done? ckissling

Yo C;

I would say most likely it would.

Why not just give it a try and see? This is how we've been "feeling our way along" while developing the Vietnam addon for CFS2.

Just remember to first delete the CDP for any "object.dp" you modify.



For the noobs & anyone who doesn't already understand this:

DP stands for "Damage Profile" This file describes (to CFS2) the physical properties of all objects that can sustain or cause damage. It also controls the effects (fx) used by the object.

CDP stands for "Cached Damage Profile" This file is automatically generated by CFS2 when an object is loaded into a mission for the first time (including FF & QC) and used by the program thereafter.

CFS2 reads the data from the CDP ONLY

Any changes made to any .dp will not be used by the sim until the existing CDP is deleted and a new one (which will include any new mods) is generated.

You would replace the existing effect in the .dp with whatever effect you wish to use.

Please post a copy of the .dp here that you want to mod & the new effect you want to add.
