Some time ago I did a post concerning the Alphasim F8F Bearcat and the fact that the FS2004 version does not have working VC gauges while the CFS2/FS2002 model does (not as downloaded, but after I did up a full panel config and placed the gauges on the vc that is...the F8F panel set can be downloaded from the CFS2 panel library..I uploaded it there).

Does anyone have the Alphasim F8F from its payware days who could say one way or another if the FS2004 version of the Bearcat had working VC gauges?

I just sent an e-mail to Alphasim on this in hope that an answer can be found.

Obio,

I can't remember when I picked up the Bearcat, but the FS 2002 panel.cfg file has these entries for the VC:

[VCockpit00]
size_mm=256,256
pixel_size=1024,1024
texture=$vpanel
background_color=0,0,0
visible=0
gauge00=P51_Airspeed, 66, 10, 35, 30
gauge01=P51_Altim, 65, 41, 38, 33
gauge02=P51_Vsi, 155, 9, 36, 31
gauge03=P51_Attitude, 108, 5, 41, 36
gauge04=f4u_gear, 33, 61, 25
gauge05=P51_Flaps, 6, 59, 19, 14
gauge06=p51_remote_compass, 108, 42, 41, 34

My FS 9 Alphasim file for the Bearcat only contains updated airplane.cfg and FM files. No panel.cfg file.

The CFS2/FS2002 version can be set up with working VC gauges...I did up a panel set that works with those versions...but the FS2004 version does not have the ability to have working VC gauges...the projection screen that the gauges show up on is not in the MDL file. I am trying to find out if the FS2004 payware version came with working VC gauges and that ability was stripped when it was released as freeware of if the model never had working gauges...which I find hard to believe in a payware item of this quality.

I have a copy of the payware Alpha F8F Bearcat and to the best of my knowledge, the VC has working gauges. I do not have the model installed at the moment however.

EDIT -- Just went and looked at my Bearcat, it is the CFS2/FS2002 variant.

The mystery is over...had a couple e-mail contacts with Phil from AS...when the model for the Bearcat was updated from CFS2/FS2002 for the newly released FS2004...the model maker was not able to get the VC gauges to work in FS2004 as the plane was modeled with AF...which was not fully supported by FS2004 it seems.

So, we can enjoy the AS Bearcat with VC gauges in CFS2/FS2002, but not in FS2004. There is the other Bearcat for FS2004...by Oldliner I think...can't remember...and it is a full on FS2004 model.

The Alpha Bleu Ciel F8F is quite nice in FS2004, I flew it a lot before transitioning to FSX.
