There will be some tail lift when you catch a wire on a carrier, this was normal with tail draggers but you should not go over on to your nose, Seafires had their props shortened by approx 6 inches as so many were damaged by the tail lift effect.

Bruce,

Nice repaint, was it based on Eagle?
Let me know if you have any snags with the paintkit, I made it after I'd done my repaints so I'm not 100% sure if it works!!

Skippy

Edit/ So if I read posts on our own forum I'd know it was based on Furious!!

Well worth a read is War in a Stringbag by Charles Lamb telling of his wartime exploits in a Swordfish.

The string bag book I have read is 'I sank the Bismacrk'

Brilliant book that deals with the Stringbag during the whole war and one pilots career, who it was found was the chap who managed to whack the torp into the Bismarck.

Downloading in a moment cant wait to fly this in FSX :ernae:

Oh, some of us folks on the 'wrong' side of the pond know about the Stringbags. :icon_lol:
Their exploits were featured in one of the favorite "Dogfights" episodes.
The "Sink The Bismarck" episode is probably one of the best, for both Sea and Air battle re-creations.

Bruce, love the Operation Torch textures, there really are a ridiculous number of schemes for the old bird!

Dominikx, there should be instructions for dropping torpedos in the read me, think it's on the last couple of pages somewhere, where I've dumped the contents of my brain into a word document basically.

Does anybody have a fix or replacement for the sound file? Mine has a noticeable annoying looping sound near full throttle? It looks and flies pretty well otherwise.

A great airplane and many thanks to the team responsible for putting it together and releasing it.

One thing I'd like to point out though. As the package uses an installer I installed it to a dummy FSX folder (I don't trust installers). Before copying from my dummy folder to my proper FSX I noticed it installed 9 new effects but I already had 3 of them in my FSX/effects folder. fx_obslight_white, fx_obslight_green and fx_obslight_amber. The thing that might be a problem is if someone runs the uninstaller it may remove this three effects files which I presume are used by some other aircraft or scenery.

SkippyBing
January 26th, 2010, 23:56
Anthony, Good catch, I'll change that in the next installer. It should only add effects starting with fx_fsXXXX, looks like I need to check out the dummy folder structure I've set up for making installers!

Really enjoying this nice plane. Thanks very much.

When I start one of the models with a torpedo showing, there is no torpedo. Should that show up automatically? The docs give an indication that stores and rear occupants are activated the same way. What way is that?

You need to create a flight with the Swordfish then save the flight with a name.

Close FSX and go to

C:\Documents and Settings\YourAccount\My Documents\Flight Simulator X Files and open the .FLT file.

Edit the file and add:

[DroppableObjects.0]
ObjectSet.0=Torpedo_MkXII, 1

at the end of the file.

Re-start FSX and from the main screen, select "Load" and load the flight you edited.

Launch Assist was left out since the FSX launch speed is way above the Swordfish max speed of 130 kts, more realistic to do free take offs.

Thanks, Ananda. Will give that a try. Saw that in the docs, but did not think one had to do all that just to get the fish to show.

It seem its all the young whippersnappers that have the answers>:icon_lol:

Just add the correct weight to the payload section to get the torpedo or bombs to show, do what ananda said if you want it to be a droppable object!

Any sign of any repaints yet?

[DroppableObjects.0]
ObjectSet.0=Torpedo_MkXII, 1

I find that if I cange the 1 to a greater value i.e, 2, 3 or 4 ,
When I launch a torp It will auto reload another torp.
The effects of the dropped torp are great however, wish
it could produce a ka-boom (blast) upon impact with a ships
hull.

I am having trouble downloading from SOH. If I click on this link (the one supplied by Bruce in this post), it takes me to the Latest Upload page and if I click on a link there it keeps repeating the Latest Uploads page. At no time can I start an actual download. Anybody else having this problem????

EDIT - Disregard this post - Just saw Harleyman's notice about dowloads being off for a week while the admins work on the server Sorry!
