Oceansize - I Am The Morning
(From one of the most perfect albums ever)
uXKoHpFhRCw

Riverside - Reality Dream III
(Don't like them much but this one is excellent!)
gHnPu444hbo

Amplifier - Gustav's Arrival
(Just to bring my favourite band into the game :d)
z-N7g6Ke-Gk

Anberlin - A Heavy-Hearted Work Of Staggering Genius
(Perfect, but way too short)
nuNwbEVVSx4

Porcupine Tree - Burning Sky

My vote goes to Loggins and Messina for their song, "Be Free".

Listen to this. As the song progresses, they really get into it.....the mandolin playing is amazing......

Ahhh, so much great stuff to choose from!
Not necessarly the best but amongst my all time favorites is quite a bit of Joe Satriani's instrumentals.
Magnificent technician who is at the same time able to play very melodic and with an intense feel.
This one for instance:

I've seen Satch twice with Chickenfoot and can't stop playing the Chickenfoot album! I can't believe he can get so much sound out of one guitar.

Steve Vai is incredible as well. Ya-Yo Cakk is one of my favorite tunes and one of the first I plan on playing for the little RR130 when she comes home. He's a very humble guy too.

You can't forget Dick Dale. Tribal Thunder is a great album.

Another great instrumental is Mountain Jam by the Allman Brothers. The 33 minute version I first heard while driving home in the middle of the night during an ugly thunderstorm. It was incredible.

Wow, the drum solo in Inagatadavita man! :icon_lol:

Overshoe, I thought I was the only human in the USA to have that Mick Ronson album, certainly Slaughter on 10th Ave. is a rave of mine.

Since so many of my real favorites have been shown, I'll go with yet another genre and instrumental.

This is Karunesh, it makes me at peace with my world. A Russian modeling friend sent me the first music I ever heard by Karunesh, nee Bruno Reuter, in Colonge, Germany.

My pick is Dick Dale and the Del-Tones "Miserlou" - although contributing at guitar forums has led me to use the word "favorite" instead of "best". An old joke will explain why:

Q: How many guitar players does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

A: Ten. One the screw in the bulb, and nine others to watch the screwing in of the bulb very closely, and then claim they could have done it better.

ATTN djscoo,

If you like Explosions in the Sky, you may also want to check out some Daniel Lanois. A lot of his clips are up on YouTube. When I first saw Friday Night Lights I thought Explosions in the Sky were Daniel Lanois, but in the Director's Commentary, Peter Berg says who they were. It was the first time I'd heard of them. Anyway, the pop music critic at one of our local newspapers calls this type of ambient playing and production "Noir".

ATTN strega13,

I've seen Vai live playing with Billy Sheehan (who's from my part of the world). This was the concert event that persuaded me to always carry ear filters with me. My ears were ringing for days afterwards...

JAMES

INTERNET MUSIC ARGUMENTS I WILL NO LONGER HAVE:

1) Fender vs. Gibson

2) Vinyl vs. digital

3) What sound frequencies the human ear and brain can and can not perceive.

Oh, the net RAGE over these things...

Yes, it is a good version....I remember going to town on Saturdays and seeing all those Frankie and Annette flicks, LOL!....I had to post the Ventures version since I remembered having that album as a kid. I've resurected this thread only because...... I've found one of the greatest guitar instrumentals, if not number one, ever played. I'm surprised no one has posted this......

Here it is......... <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4j34gG2xR3I&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4j34gG2xR3I&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

I have listened to this and other videos and am awed by his talent with a guitar. To me it's pure music at it's finest. Truely amazing just to watch him and the band play.

And from 1992..........
