While giving the new FDG2 F4U-1 the ACM treatment and then skinin'er in RobH's new paint(thanks Rob), I was surprised to find that the FDG2 DL (FDG2 Corsairs Anthology for CFS2) included the whole stable of FDG2 F4Us. (yeah, ...I know, ...read, ...duh.)
I set upon the -A, -C, and -D as they were already in my PTO installs with the DBolt model.
I was not lookin' forward to losing all my Cobrauk based skins, ...as my missions were based on those squadrons, and they are excellent skins with some time on my part to get'em just right.
So on a lark, I looked at the .bmps of the FDG2's and compared them to the DB ones, ...to see if they could be morphed...
...And they are the SAME, ...plus or minus a few details.
1.) Rename the textures.
..........DB.............. --> .........FDG2..........
F4u1a_corsair_t.bmp --> F4U-1D_L_t.bmp
F4u1a_corsair2_d.bmp --> F4U-1D_R_t.bmp
2.) The entire "F4u1a_corsair2_d.bmp" needs to be horizontally flipped in the .bmp (so the numbers/letters no longer appear reversed and the objects face the other way)
3.) Copy-N-Paste a canopy (where the main wheels were) from a pair of original FDG2.bmps to BOTH new converted .bmps.
4.) Remove any gun ports from the wings. (the FDG2 .mdl has'em built in)
5.) Add a little paint to BOTH rudders at the top-rear. (just round'em off like the top-front.
6.) Inspect wing leading edge for anomalies. (stretched paint chips, etc.)
You are DONE.
(do the mods in DXTBmpx, save a working copy in 565, and a flying copy in DXT-1)
Will explore damage textures if they work, ...and bullet holes.
