New Boots

What with the recent inclement weather I came to the conclusion that I needed some new Winter Boots. I looked at Magnum and Meindl and 5.11 and Blackhawk but this is what I chose, Sasta Kaira from Finland. I like them so much I wanted to post a picture of them. I have a feeling they are going to last me twenty years.

I use my Meindl Jersey Pro's for the Summer. Any other Boot lovers around (and I'm sure this is a Man Boot kind of place), please share your preferences. What do you Alaskan types recommend for instance for heavy duty Winter use?

I have no use for snow boots, but for summer backpacking, I previously used these:

Except for clearing the drive way I avoid walking in snow, so I don't have any serious suggestions. Besides I live in the city where we don't need them as much (until breakup).

I wish I had Gore-Tex boots for hiking as the snow remains on many favored trails until the end of June. First I probably need something for the trail maintenance work, specifically handling a chain saw (insert Tim Taylor grunts here). Perhaps it is time for another trip to REI.

I have 2 pairs of Meindl's that are sold by Cabela's.I am going to use them on my upcoming hike (or deathmarch) of the Appalachian Trail.I am quite impressed with the quality and comfort.:d

These Meindl's have already lasted me several years and I can't see them wearing out - they were comfortable right out of the box.
But for snow and mud I feel better in my Hunting Boots :running:

I cannot wear anything but New Balance, because I have extra-wide Hobbit feet and New Balance is the only company that sells here with a 4E width. I own two pair for hiking, one for warmer weather and one for the cold.

But for the most part, I am a sneaker freak, never worn anything else since I was a kid much. But again, I have to get New Balance these days for my wide feet, Nike will not cut it.

Great timing! I just bought a new pair of boots this afternoon for general running around and when I'm riding my horse. I've got problems finding a good fit too. I've got swamp mud wading extra wide feet.

Like Smoothie, my favorite boots are military boots.

My all time favorite boot was the Army jungle boot with Panama sole. I must have humped a thousand miles in jungles, mountains and tundra wearing them. I still have a set in my locker out in the garage. On my last day in the Army, I'm going to wear them again, even though they are no longer authorized.

My current boot is actually even more comfortable and as you can imagine, I've put a few miles on them too.

For everyday use I have a pair of 'Human nature' boots which is a Dutch brand and I have no photo available; for work I have a pair of eight inch Magnum Elite Spiders. Very lightweight, breathes very well and very comfortable but durability isn't the strongest point.

i know several guys who have a pair of magnums, good boots but as you say not durable... although saying that they are lightweight and flexible and breathe... might have to invest in a pair myself... might be armed forces but my other hobby aside from Parachuting and FS is walking... not hiking, more like a TAB over any terrain i encounter :icon_lol:

Belleview, Danner and Corcran seem to be the major US suppliers. I do see a lot of shoe companies trying to get in on the market with military specialty boots that look (other than color) like many of the civilian boots in the thread. Nike even sent some of our guys a lightweight desert boot (much like a high-top running shoe) to try.

For dress wear (Class A and B uniforms), US Army parachute units still wear the WW II style parachute boot made by Corcran. It's a tradition now of 70 some years and it's still going strong.

Ah, I've always considered those the most beautifull boot I've ever laid eyes on. I hate seeing people wear them without a good pollish on them. They should always be dark, dark black with a nice shine.

CG_1976 though your post shows some very nice kit it will only keep me warm because it convinced me to never, ever under any circumstance travell that far north. -100!?! un-uh not this guy. -20 and I'm looking for an electric blanket, a fire, indoors with a nice warm female to share it!

Having viewed all those boots....I've got to say that I'm likin' C9G's the best! Probably not the best choice for a 30k hike over mountainous and muddy terrain in sub zero conditions....but with pins like those .....who cares! :engel016::bump::icon_lol:

if its a beach hike she'll go barefoot no doubt, i have 2 pairs of assault boots, one pair for general usage and one for operational/base side of things...

i'm loathe to take my boots off, even now sat here comfortably in my general usage pair, drinking lager and looking for a new parachute for the weekends :icon_lol:

I find that the soles of DMs are too inflexible for walking any great distance without becoming uncomfortable. Same goes for Timberlands which were always more about fashion I think. Steel capped DMs are very good in an industrial environment though :stop: :hatchet:
