About 15mins ago I was roused by the sound of a jet flying low over my house. I live out in the boonies & that rarely happens. On the odd occasion it does its the KYNG practicing in their F16's but this time the sound was all wrong. It was more whine than roar so I headed outside to see what it was.

When I got outside the plane was already past & I was looking at it at an oblique angle but it was a ERJ heading due west at about 1000ft. For those of you that live in metro areas that may be a common sight but I live 40mi from the closest airport that one of those could fit into.

My 1st thought was maybe they had some sort of instrument failure & were flying below the cloud cover but the clouds are at about 10000. What is even more strange is he was headed due west. From where I live Cincinnati is North & Lexington is South both of which are about 40mi away.

Very odd... Very odd indeed.

Cincinnati ATC might know something about that - sounds strange for sure.

When I lived in LA and TX, the sight of a low-flying aircraft in the boonies usually meant someone was surveying the lay of the land. You may want to see if there have been any large blocks of land sales out by you recently. Might be that you have some new development coming soon.

a bit earlier than what seems right from the OP, but there was a Freedom Air ERJ145 departed KLEX for KCVG that may fit...
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/FRL110

of course there's no altitude reporting available after the fact

, but other reasons for a low flight could be pressurization, or an empty flight that the crew decided to enjoy ( a friend once flew his DC-6 run from KLGA to CYUL up the Hudson VFR at 1000ft "because he could")

I bet that was the flight! Looking at his flight path it would of gone right over my house.
I am here to tell ya he wasnt at 9000ft!

Thanks for the link.
