One of those History/Discovery/Science channels had a special about this incident this week. It was quite interesting. The whole thing, from bird strike to ditching, only took a couple of minutes, but it must have seemed like forever. The co-pilot said something interesting during this program, which real pilots probably do not find unusual at all. He said that up until a few seconds before impact, the thought of landing anywhere other than on an airport somewhere never entered his mind, because he was so busy going through procedures to try to re-start the engines. It was only until the last moments, when they were "out of airspeed, altirtude, and ideas" that he thought to himself "wow, we're actually going to crash."

Here's a link to an article written 4 days later by an Airbus pilot:

Probable flight deck sequence of events during US Airways Flight 1549
Here are some comments from an A340 pilot on the probable sequence of events immediately prior and after the collision with a flock of geese

Busy?? just a bit!

Saw it the other night. It was well done. Was especially touched by the comments of the passengers and crew and what they felt during and after the landing in the water. Understandably, it was a life changing event for quite a few of them.
