Saw this on AVSIM this morning:

Isn't it more simple to simply lower the Global texture resolution in FSX...? More fps is nice but at the cost of lower resolution textures...?

Personally, I'm leary of any addon that replaces core parts of FSX not coming from a known developer. For me part of the appeal of FSX is the larger, higher resolution textures than what FS9 had. I am still trying to figure out what the alpha is for other than shinyness or transparency.

That depends, I have a low spec rig and have reduced the texture sizes on my autogen and clouds with such addons. I can't really tell they are reduced in terms of visual quality, but it has made it possible to have more autogen and weather for less impact. That was a definite win for me.

For giggles last night I tried it. Saw no change in my FPS.
All the cars on roads no longer appeared, except white textured ones. Soon as I reverted original textures back, all vehicles re-appeared.

Some of the textures in the list, like Ayers Rock, I doubt I would ever gain that much benefit from having a lower res version.
Didn't impress me much. :kilroy:

I REALLY appreciate the quick input. I guess I am just "chicken", but I don't like to simply install anything that shows up on either Flightsim.com or AVSIM, just because the creator says it does what he says it does....... I need more information, and you provided it.

Thanks shipmates.

Thanks for the feedback. Don't think I will try it then.

Same here. I can gladly give up a little graphics quality for a smoother flight especially when flying on VATSIM.

Ditto here, copied a dup of my Global textures to my external HD and replaced the textures. I noticed no loss in detail, but no gain in fps either. I reinstalled the folder from the external HD, deleted and defragged..
