Just wondering if anyone is flying the FSD O-2A (FSX version) and is it considered a true FSX model . I don't own the FS9 version so this would be the standalone FSX version on their site. I saw that there is an upgrade to the FS9 model. Currently using SP2 .

...I asked Jim Goldman that question yesterday, and he confirmed that it is a portover. But frankly, as a guy who owns the 337/O-2 and who flies it in FSX, I think it's a pretty good airplane and worth the price--even as a portover!

Just my .02 cents.

It is not currently a true FSX model. Although I have it installed, I don't use it because there are a number of transparency issues with the panel. That's one I might consider getting (even after the serious issues I've had with certain members of FSD in the past), as is their Navajo, when that becomes true FSX.

Thanks for the replies . Still giving it some serious consideration . I currently have 5 or 6 postovers that fly well , visually have no serious defects .

Thanks again ,

the 337 is my all time favorite aircraft. if i could get a good one of those for fsx, i might never fly another airplane ever again. if someone does make one, and they don't put a decent a/p in there, i'm gonna freak out.:banghead:

5 or 6? I have over 120 airplanes in my FSX hangar and 2/3 of those are portovers, lol.

A lot of the aircraft in my hanger are ported too and work just fine in FSX. Sure there are the usual prop/cloud issues, but since I usually fly from the VC, it's not very noticable. I have the FSD O-2 and it's one of my favorites. I keep it based at the AS Bien Hoa AB package, and it's perfect for those over-the-treetop recon flights... (Remember BAT-21?) :wiggle:

I have the O-2 installed into FSX (SP-1) and don't really use it because of the VC panel transparency issue. It's a shame this happens in FSX because I used the FS9 plane regularly in FS9. Sounds are relatively accurate to the real thing.

FSD did a great job in general with the O-2, but when asked about the panel issue you recieve a "form letter" type canned response explaining how your system lacks sufficient resources to run the plane and have the panel show up correctly. Well thats not the issue...but?

Wish someone had a fix or FSD would seriously address this issue because the FSD Oscar Duce stands alone in it's virtual field.

I fly in a actual O-2 here in SW Florida...see pic of me lifting weights

I've been flying the O-2 for ages and don't have any issues with it--using sp2 and acceleration. Just don't try to use it in DX10 mode. Also, they have some dds textures available for it and they work great. Not bad for a port over.

Cool pic, I'm building a homebuilt and have plans to install the sight off of my dad's old 0-2 (the one at the Pima air museum) in it. I've practically got the entire cockpit off an 0-2 in front of my desk right now. Check out the sight though(from a combat 0-2 that was shot down and then fixed from vietnam):

As with Airfighterjohn, I've been flying the O-2 in FSX/Accel for a long time with no issues at all. Maybe the "fix" you're looking for is to upgrade to Accel??

That's interesting, because the reason I uninstalled the O-2 (but not the 337s) was because the O-2 suffered terribly from gaping gaps in the panel with Accel, but the 337s don't.

I just checked and, sure enough, I have slightly modified my FSD 337 panel.cfg file VCockpit01 to alleviate some or all of the VC transparency issues in FSX SP2/Accel (may have been done before SP2 was installed):

background_color=1,0,0
//background_color=0,0,0

I do not recall where I came across this suggestion originally.

Ian,

Same experience here, the 337 is ok the O-2 has panel dispay issues,
but it dosen't matter because apparently the FSD full FSX upgrade for acceleration will hopefully address this issue.

Once we all in the FS communtiy embrace SP-2 and are on the same sheet of music it will be time to introduce FS11 with mutilple service packs to follow. The we can start all over again...lol it's our hobby huh...

i am hoping that aces will be smart about it for fs11 and end the backwards compatibility and start fresh

As I understand it,
FS11 will be backwards compatible only to FSX SP2/Acceleration...

what does that mean exactly? just the hornet and the eh-101 and the mustang? or does it mean anything that flies in sp2 ?

GUys:

You got me thinking and I went back to the 337 and O2A and made a few changes to the panel.cfg file........ So far the issues stated in the VC are no longer there....

Please try the following and let me know.

Open the panel.cfg file:

Go to the VC portion of the file...... look for background_color=0,0,0

Change to = background_color=1,0,0

Now go the end of the panel.cfg file and find:

[Color]
Day=255,255,255
Night=00,00,00
Luminous=00,00,00

change it to the above example................. now save the changes.

One more thing....... You will have to open the loadout.cfg file and make the same changes to the appropriate section and save this as well.

Now go into FSX and see if the problem still exists. ;)

Best and good luck

Hi Jim,

Regarding making the above changes to the O-2

where is the "loadout .cfg" located? In the aircraft folder?

All I see is the airfile, aircraft.cfg, model etc. so I must be looking in the wrong place.

Thanks,

Captdoug

I think it's in the 'data' folder...
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\FSD O2A\Data

Just purchased the O-2A and I agree with the above comment . I have no issues with it and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite planes . I have implemented Jim's panel config changes listed here in this tread but I really did'nt have the transparency issues as stated above . the gauge technology used with this palne is excellent .:applause: I personnally would highly recommend this aircraft and with the future upgrade it can only make a great plane even greater.

Thanks Jim and team ,

HI , my name is Bruce and i use portovers ..... {hi bruce} :icon_lol:

Actually Bruce , this is my fourth reinstall(Clean) of FSX due to a simconnect problem(Which I still hav'nt corrected) . A previous install I probably had 45 or 50 portovers .:icon_lol: There is just too many excellent FS9 AC that work very well in FSX. I plan on loading loading them and many more back into my current install of FSX . (SP2/Accel)

I tried the .cfg modifactions mentioned above and still no joy...

the VC Panel and cockpit still are slightly transparent.

It's ashame for the moment but i'll push it back in the hanger to fly another day in the future.

Thanks all for the suggestions,
