..and 'Princess Pat', flown by Lts Petitt and MacKenzie. MacKenzie was shot down by a B-17 in this aircraft in April 1944. Oh Rats!!

These will go well with Jan Kees' excellent WBS -B models and his upcoming 339th FG A2A -D's. Next in the shop is 'Marinell' possibly in WWII form and all shiney as she is now with a 'modernish' cockpit having GPS and Bendix radio/autopilot in the vc.

Sorry to ask you to move back to an already visited group, Mr. Q, but if you do Marinell, is there any chance of doing Maurice Hammond's other Mustang and painting a Janie for the A2A model, please? There was one done apparently, but I'm darned if I can find it in a form that will work with the latest incarnation.

I very much doubt it Jan Kees.......!:salute: But I'll give it a go as I found a very nice photo of Maurice Hammond's ship on the 339th FG website so might give it a try for my own collection if nothing else.

It's really nice to see these 339th birds.

I have had the honor of attending several of their annual reunions and met quite a few of the pilots. Just one correction. I believe that 6-NX "Tar Heel" was Capt Jim Starnes aircraft. It seems he had 4 P-51's with that designation with the first being a -B model

This is my interpretation of 44-13521 'Marinell' as she would have appeared returning home over the North Sea in July 1944. She went down on 13th August 1944 north of Paris after a straffing run, killing the pilot Lt. Myers Winkelmann. She has been salvaged and completely rebuilt to flight status by Maurice Hammond in the UK and is currently airworthy.

There is some debate as to whether she was coded 5Q-B or 5Q-D; Maurice Hammond has her coded -B but Peter Randall at Littlefriends.co.uk believes she was more likely to have been coded -D (see here (http://www.littlefriends.co.uk/search.php?searchString=Marinell&Submit=Search)). I don't intend doing an 'airshow' version - the Flight 1 offering provides a much better one I'm sure.


In the evening light the lack of alpha channels for the fuselage makes her look nicely 'used' (fear not, they'll be on if she's published!).
