Beautiful work Jankees. Makes me want to open my wallet... The B/C model P-51s are some of my favorites.

Gorgeous repaints and screens !
By the way Jankees , I must say that your repaints for the A2A P-40 are just perfect. (irrelevant comment here but...):ernae:
As Mr Bob, I still havent made the move for this WBS P-51. I fly with the Flight1 mustang for the time....

Thanks for the kind words, guys.
Yes, it is ridiculously expensive, so I'll excuse myself for tempting you.
However, it is much better value for money than the flight1 Mustang if you ask me...
maybe a captain sim like x-mas sale, warbirdsim??

These are fantastic as usual Jan Kees; the 339th FG is sorely neglected for repaints. I'd love to buy the B/C version for FSX (I have the FS9 one) and make use of all your paints but just cannot justify the cost.

Very nice repaint, Jankees.

I recently purchased the Warbirdsim Mustang and while it is expensive I do think it's worth it (just about). Having said that, for the same money you can buy both the early and late variants of the superb Classics Hangar Fw 190 (which I've also done). No, I haven't told my wife yet...

I'm afraid I'm still put off from getting it by the publisher more than the price.

I did, however, look at trying to backdate Fowlmere to WW2 days to replace the modern field, as there's no AI to worry about there (it's a grass strip, nothing else, in FSX - but it wouldn't be compatible with UK2000 if I did make one).

Anyone interested?

Mr. "jankees,"

and I can do a few A2A Mustangs from Fowlmere as well if you like?

Very much so! :salute:
These look great; I can't wait for A2A to Accu-sim this model, too, so I can use it with your repaints. :jump:

I doubt A2A will be Accu-simming a Warbirdsim model, somehow. :d

I was out for most of last night, but did take a look at what I have for Fowlmere. It's not really enough to do the layout properly, but I'll have a look. I can see where it all was on the ground, but according to the book there were sixty dispersals... Not one of which is still visible or shown on the airfield plan.

I'll keep digging. I want as many of these phenomenal repaints as possible to have a home! :applause::icon_lol:

I think James means the new A2A -D. But I fear we're all going to have to start anew with repaints because I have a feeling Lewis has said somewhere that the old repaint kit won't fit the new model. Still it all adds to the fun......!:jump:

BTW I have a couple of A2A -D's from Fowlmere if anyone's interested.

I believe it was posted somewhere on the A2A forums that would indeed be new mapping on the Accu-Sim D model.

Monday was 'Magic of the Musicals' in Warwick to see my niece perform, last night was shopping, tonight is College... I'll look at this again tomorrow night I hope.

I'll take anything either of you produce! Although I still need to install all the gubbins and whatnot to do scenery design... Forgot about that bit.

I grabbed all the repaints you uploaded to fs.com a short while ago, Dave, and have just been sent an excellent drawing of the layout of Fowlmere, so if there are appropriate liveries on the loose, I'd better get cracking and install the A2A P-51D again, as well.

Now I see that all the B's have stripes on their wings, and the D's don't. Maybe I should still add those. Dave, how are you painting them, with, or without?

Depends on when they're depicted. Between June and October/November early -D's would gradually lose their invasion stripes (from the top surfaces first) and the Quick ID Markings (QIM's, the black stripes) were removed by early 1945 from most, and not applied to new aircraft from around October/November 1944. Many -D's and -B's however retained them till the end of the war. I've just done Maurice Hammond's 'Marinell' as it would most probably have appeared in July 1944, based on photos on Peter Randall's Little Friends site. But Petitt and MacKenzie's 'Princess Pat' was lost in April 1945 and is shown without any ID markings and a coloured rudder(see also the other Fowlmere thread (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=27780)).

For your airfield shots to be historically accurate with rivet-counting detail (and sad...) you'd need to pick a month between June 1944 and May 1945, research what aircraft were on strength then and paint them marked as they would have been at that time. Personally I think you'd need to get out more.......!

They're great shots BTW and I wish I knew how to do that.

Get out more?
I fell and nearly broke my leg yesterday, and the whole country is covered in snow...I couldn't move, so painted a few a/c..

But I made it to work today...

The shots are made with the recorder module ( link (http://www.fs-recorder.net/)). You record a flight, replay it as traffic with the next aircraft which you record etc

IanP
December 18th, 2009, 01:27
Either AI or FSRecorder, at a guess?

I used an AI file with every blue nose I could find in hi res for my shots at Bodney, but I think Nick uses FS recorder to get a bunch of aircraft next to each other.

Looking very nice anyway Gents, thanks for those! Fowlmere currently has a peri track, two steel mat runways and one steel dispersal point with a hangar and a 343/43 (probably not correct, but as close as I can get right now) tower. I've just been installing scenery libraries, though, so should have something more along this weekend as a draft version 0.1.

Edit: Jan Kees beat me to the post button. ;)

I went outside once but I've retired now..........!

I can never get FSRecorder to record AI traffic. I set it up to record traffic (or so I assume) but it doesn't. What am I doing wrong?

I am absolutely thrilled to see all of these 339th birds showing up. I have a distant connection to the 339th. My mother was in the Red Cross and was stationed at Fowlmere with the 339th and I have attended a number of the groups reunions.

The attached picture is a group celebration of their 200th mission. My mom is the Red Cross gal on the left. The gentleman in the center is the group commander Col John B Henry.

I would like to request a repaint of Herv Stockman's P-51B 5Q-X "Fuxum".

It's wonderful to have this kind of post; it breathes real life into the stuff we do in painting these aeroplanes. One of us should do Col Henry's 'San Antone Rose'. BTW Herv Stockman went on to fly F-84's during the Korean war and F-4's from Da Nang in Vietnam.

Herve Stockman gave the presentation at the 339th Fighter Group reunion banquet in Milwaulkee and recounted highlights from his career which included a tour in the Hanoi Hilton as a POW.

He was also "sheep dipped" into the U2 program and was the first U2 pilot to overfly the Soviet Union.

About half way through the 72 flippin' dispersal points. I wouldn't mind if I didn't have to draw each one by hand because they're all at different angles so copy and paste doesn't work.

It's usable now, if anyone wants to fly something from it. It'll be a while before I get to add parking spots and more buildings though and I'll be cross-eyed from trying to keep steel mat taxiways from blending into concrete ones. I think I've used more taxiway reference points on this already than my last two airfields combined...

Taking a break now. Painkillers wearing off and my back is starting to seriously hurt again.

if anyone has photoshop cs-2 or better, you can make it a "smart" layer andf blow it up maintaining the quality. i dont have that myself, but from here, it is mildly reminiscent of Jimmy Doolittle's "ruptured duck" nose paint/

Awe-inspiring Jan Kees!!:applause::icon29: A great piece of artwork and formation flying!

I just wish I could get FSRecorder to work this well - I seem to only be able to record one plane at a time, even with AI record on.

Cheers and a Happy Christmas!!
