What's a good freeware carrier I can use to try catapult launches and deck landings. I seem to recall when the fdg Corsairs were released one was hyped quite a bit. Does anyone recall?

There are so many!

The Arrester Cables carrier set places Kitty Hawk-class and Nimitz-class carriers all over the world. There have been several different releases. Most have the flight decks cluttered with F-18 Hornets and F-35 Joint Strike Fighters, which not only get in the way, but make pretty much any plane you fly that isn't very modern look out of place. There is an FS2002 release that deletes all the static aircraft and works perfectly in FS9. I recommend that you get that one. These are probably the slickest carriers around, with functioning blast deflectors behind the catapults, deck crews and tow tractors scattered around the flight deck, etc.

AlphaSims gave us a nice freeware CV-65 Enterprise located just off NAS Roosevelt Roads, PR.

The Virtual Navy gave us a nice 27C angled-deck CV-9 Essex located of Pensacola, in harbor at Corpus Christi, and I think maybe one other location that I can't recall.

For straight deck carriers, we have the VN's Task Force 16 in the north Pacific, my relocation of it to the north Atlantic as Carrier Division Two, and Paul Clawson's CV-2 Lexington and CV-1 Langley, both located all over the world in my relocation packages.

I may have forgotten some others. My Arrestor Cables cfg file has something over 90 entries, each representing a carrier somewhere in the FS9 world.

Also, somehwat more appropriate to the lovely Firefly you're working on, is the Ark Royal that was released by Seaking55 and his group. Also along the same vein is the Arromanches - great carrier scenery.

If you bought the RAZBAM Skyhawks (II), you get the HMAS Melbourne. Basic, but nice for a 50's - 60's era environment. If you bought the MAAM Avenger, you get a magnificent CV-27 Langley.

But the real winner for the best carriers of WWII anywhere - and free, to boot ... the Midway USN/IJN packages by Yanco. THE best ensemble of WWII scenery+AI aircraft this side of Lionheart's fantastic Valkyrie package.

Search the sim outhouse add ons for Willy's add ons

There is one in there 18 carriers scattered through out the world.

They are Holger Sandmans I believe released by permission.

They work in FS2002 and FS2004

I find a combination of Arrestor Cables 2.6 and RCBCO 2.0 to be the best.

Arrestor Cables works best for trapping and launching trikes but does not have the HuD

RCBCO 2.0 will launch tail draggers and has the Hud if you want to use it for arrested landings.

The ones I uploaded are a set by Richard Hogan of 18 Nimitz class carriers scattered around the world and are teh original set of freeware carriers for use with his ArrCab program. They were made for FS2002 and work just fine in FS2004. Mr Hogan was gracious enough to allow me to upload them here.

I use the Carrier Ops gauge pack for takeoffs and landings on carriers.

Also, I've been using Mick's packs of the USS Langley and USS Lexington for straight deck carriers.

the arromanches package is a great looking carrier, and has a Royal Navy skin available if you like the straight deck. traps taildraggers good with RBCO too.
heard there were more Royal Navy groups coming out of CBFS, but no word of late, tho Delta_Lima may know.

You can also fake a cat launch with any aircraft using slew mode. If you enter slew mode with zero speed, then exit slew mode above the ground, you exit at cruise speed. All you need to do is hit the Q key in slew mode to slowly rise off the ground a few inches. I know it's not very realistic, but it works.

Now getting your bird stopped, that's up to you!:isadizzy:

A fun one is the USS Joe Foss located in San Francisco Bay by the Golden Gate Bridge.

Bill Lyons Golden Hawaii has a flat top too.

So does the Sea Hurricane by Robert Sanderson, available at the OH too.

PS. The Alpha Swordfish has an escort carrier in Scapa Flow too.
