There is a way to cut, excuse the expression, trees down limiting their number per sq something or another in FSX.Cfg. Anyone know the secret?

In FSX.CFG add this under [TERRAIN]:

TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=1000

And you can change the value to anything between 1 and 6000.

The most valuable fsx.cfg tweak of them all. Couldn't live without this set at 6000. :d

6000 trees ? Your CPU can handle them ? Wow it must look really impressive if you choose the max autogen density (or one crank below the max):jump:

Autogen is always maxed out. If it wasn't for it, I would have stuck to FS9. ;)

Wow !... Just Wow...
Could you post a screenshot about a well known area ?... I don't know, maybe Bella Coola, or Lake Tahoe ? It must look amazing wih such an dense autogen !
I tried once to max out the autogen in my FSX.cfg, unfortunately it was not allowed by the rest of my tweak values, so I was getting a lot of artifacts on the screen..

Take a slow flight from Barking Sands (PHBK) to Princeville (HI01) along the north side of Kaua'i, Hawai'i at 6,000 trees and let me know how the FPS goes. My poor system couldn't handle the load at stock settings! :isadizzy:

I'm too lazy to fulfill requests right now, but rest assured that my FPS only dip in very heavy (ASX generated) weather and at large airports. In rural areas I get 23 FPS (limited) - constant.

Here's some older screenshots that give you an idea of how well 6000/6000 looks. The "impressiveness" is very dependent on the landclass and FSX's goodwill. Also, I'm running the "Low" AutogenDescriptions.spb. It takes away a bit of the variety, but I can live with that.

Gentlemen...

These cannot be real photos. I believe they are sent back from the future, 10 years from now, when engineers and scientists have figured a way to run FSX smoothly! These must be fakes or definately from the future!

;)

Great screenshots Bjoern. Must be nice...

Aaaaah, the benefits of not having an Apple....and knowing how to overclock a quad. :kilroy: :d

Nice shots, is that GEX?

Nope, default and maybe some of Adam Mill's textures in there.

Aha! Any chance you could point us to a link for that please? Every one I've come across is dead. Does it work with SP2 / Acceleration? I've come across a few posts that say not.

This is one of those little tweaks that I probably saw and never gave much credence to, so I added the line, maxed it out and went to Tsuniah Lake Lodge in BC to try it out.
These shots are with every slider maxed, running DXT10 and while I'm not sure if you can make out the FPS counter, the frame rate wasn't affected much, if at all.

100% with you, if you canīt have Autogen all the way out might as well stay in FS9. We need a new Sim!!!!! donīt we?

I have trees at 6000 and sliders full, it makes all the difference when flying in the wilderness. Also makes landing at small strips harder when they are surrounded by dense forests:running:.

I also have TreeX lower resolution tree textures installed which helps with frames.

[FSX root folder]\Autogen

The AutogenDescriptions.spbs should be in there. If not, I'll zip up the folder and attach them here.

Only if it has more autogen.

More autogen...

Thanks for that. I guess I just backup the AutogenDescriptions file and then rename the AutogenDescriptions_Min. Cheers!

There has been an 3D autogen replacement for FS9, but I have no idea how the developers did it.

You *might* be able to spice up the autogen with some custom models though by adding them to the default.xml. I haven't seen anyone doing this so far, however.

I was thinking about adding some simple 3d trees to default billboard ones.

You could try to reverse engineer this one for FS9 and see how this guy did it:
