Dear fellows:

As stated before, this one will be next:

http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt112/wildbillkelso_berlin/buffalo1.jpg

Tim-HH already did an other BUFFALO ship in a different livery, and he was so kind to provide the lettering to me.

As far as I can see by now, there's just some little glitches we have to live with: I took the OY-BPB model, although the depicted C-FLFR doesn't have this small window in the left cargo door. But for me it seems like this model is the only one with a seperate area mapped for the coloured dorsal fin root.
The C-FLFR also has no astrodome, but maybe the BUFFALO navigators could make good use of it on their long-distance cargo-runs...
Btw: Does any of the dedicated MAAM-Goon experts here knows where the textures of the astrodome base ring is taken from? Its olive drab doesn't seem to fit too well...

As usual, there's enough of those tiny things to be ironed out, but she should be up soon!

Cheers,
Markus.

Suppose i could qualify as a dedicated Maam Goon expert so i'll give it a try... :mixedsmi:

What you want for the radome body, blade- and horseshoe antenna is 'r4d_entrance.bmp' ,Markus. Do you have one of those multicolored checkerboard test textures ? Temporarely lay it over the orginal so you can see what goes where.

You prolly want that airscoop painted as well, it's on 'cabin.bmp'.

Boy! this sure is old Goon ! :d

Nice of you to breath some more live into her, Markus, great job, mate ! :applause:

Tschüss!

Hartelijk bedankt, Jan! :ernae:
That was the information (and the expert...) I was looking for!

Do you have one of those multicolored checkerboard test textures ?
Of course I do!
Couldn't make any repaint without this very useful tool, especially on planes with sometimes weird mappings such as your Goon ! :d

...that airscoop painted as well, it's on 'cabin.bmp'.
Aaaaaah! Missed this before. It took some time to find out that the cargo door's hinges are mapped there as well...

Nice of you to breath some more live into her
This grand old lady is worth every single minute, mate!

Groetjes,
Markus.

Buffalo is another favorite of mine for the northern routes.

Thanks.

That looks really great, Markus!! :applause:

Have you thought about doing a version with this interesting "nose art"? :)

Thanks a lot, fellas!

Nice nose art, Tim!
As far as I can see, it's on C-GPNR:
http://www.airliners.net/photo/Buffalo-Airways/Douglas-DC-3.../1401480/L/

whereas I selected C-FLFR:
http://www.airliners.net/photo/Buffalo-Airways/Douglas-DC-3C/1026760/L/

I'm still not too happy taking the OY-BPB model with its nasty cargo door window, but all other appropriate models allowing the painted dorsal fin root are supercharged C-47Bs with the bigger air intake on the nacelle's top. Hard to tell which "in-accuracy" is easier to accept...
Maybe it will be a good idea to additionally roll out the C-GPNR (with nose art) on one of the C-47B cargo models, allowing the user to choose either paxes or boxes and barrels to take up north...

Cheers,
Markus.

Rule #1 of northern ops Markus... It's ALL cargo - just some is easier to load than others:icon_lol:

Good point, Rob! :ernae:

In the meantime, I found out that the BBMF version from the All Theaters Expansion Pack offers non-charged engines and a paintable dorsal fin root section - so now it's official:
The nose-art-bearing C-GPNR (cargo configuration - well: the not-so-easy-to-load-cargo :bump:) will also be released!

Unfortunately, the BBMF model has a slightly differing texture mapping (nose section, cargo door, windscreen), driving me hopping mad once again :crybaby: , so this one needs some more time in the paint booth.

I hope you freelance cargo runners, ready to board this ship, can wait a little longer...

http://www.flightsim.com/o/maam_buffalo2.gif FS2004 Buffalo Airways Douglas C-47. Two repaints for the MAAM-SIM C47, depicting the Buffalo Airways C-FLFR (pax version) and C-GPNR (cargo version). Buffalo Airways is a family run charter and scheduled airline based in Hay River, Northwest Territories. It was established in 1970 and operates scheduled passenger services and cargo and passenger charter services, as well as firefighting and fuel services. These are texture files only. Prior installation of the MAAM-SIM DC-3/C-47/R4D base pack, the 'OY-BPB Expansion Pack' and the 'All Theaters Expansion Pack', available from Mid-Atlantic Air Museum Simulations (MAAM-SIM) is required. This repaint was made using the repaint kit by Mark Beaumont and additional textures by Tim Scharnhop. By Markus Hellwig.

For the first time, I created a more detailed (and illustrated) readme in PDF format included in this package. I'd be grateful for any feedback whether this is useful to you or not. Building this document was more time-expensive than I thought when starting, although most of the data could be found on the BUFFALO website. I will certainly not do this for each further repaint project, but I think this one was worth it.

So please tell me if this small documentation is welcome.

Cheers,
Markus.

Yessir, I was re-checking Flight-Sim every few minutes this morning, and saw the new batch on about the twentieth try. Downloaded and installed, now.

Many thanks, Markus! Just simply beautiful, well-worth the wait, and it'll keep me happy while doing my Arctic Resupply Run project, this winter.

Cheers and thanks again, Markus!

If you'd like a 3rd Buffalo Airways texture, actually the first one done for the MAAM bird, grab Tim's C-GWIR texture.

For the first time, I'm playing with Traffic Tools (still some mysteries to me...). This is Pete&Sid's Hay River Buffalo Hub, with a massively customized traffic file (replaced all those Cessnas with Buffaloes).
All the other Buffalo repaints (on JBK's DC-4, Mike Stone's Cat, default DC-3, Greg Pepper's/Libardo Guzman's Commando) are already available.
As they are no dedicated AI models, this traffic of course has some frame impact, but it works great.
Once I'm satified with the result, I'll roll it out to you!

Cheers,
Markus.

Your request is noted, gentlemen! :mixedsmi:

But I think I'll add some more:

http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt112/wildbillkelso_berlin/buffallotraffic4.jpg

This one is going to be finished.
I always wanted to take the Commando into my paint shack, and because C-FAVO is already available, I'm working on the second one of the Buffalo's whales, C-GTXW.

Is there any fix for the cargo door behaviour?
It seems like this door is combined with the cowl flaps operations: Each time I like to cool my engines down, I'm loosing some of my cargo... :isadizzy:

But what a pig of a plane! :jump:

Save the radials!

Markus, you know I'll never complain about your Canadian excursions:icon_lol:

A couple of notes that may be of interest:
C-GPNR Buffalo Airways C-47A-25-DK, c/n 13333, 42-93423 D17May44 - KG602 RAF Montreal 25May44- UK 30May44-575 Sq 05Ju144-512 Sq M East llOct45 - 437 Sq 04Apr46 - Canadian Govt 16Jun46 - RCAF 09Sep46 - 1 ANS "VCDHJ" (1952) - CAF 12932 Jun70 - 429 Sq - St Saskatoon Mar75 - C-GPNR Buffalo Air Ltd. Now I noticed that CUE has a different paint ( Joe never liked repetition)

and in a historical note, CUE (Dept of Transport) was the first aircraft to ever land at the Yellowknife airport (until then all operations to the 'knife were amphibious. (CPAL Cansos and PWA Stranraers among others).

As for TXW, this might be an interesting variation.. bare metal top and the green wings

and there's always C-GTPO, although there might be some licensing "issues" with the "pax" (look closely)

or TPO this way, without the characters.. but note the lettering of "Buffalo"

I'll definately will not start any messing with the mighty Disney corporation's lawyers  (everything I know about these I learned at various Simpsons episodes...), so C-GTPO will be a 'no, thanks!'.

But C-FCUE is a nice variation. I like these markings on the cowling and already did them for my RCAF Daks, so I would just have to change the colour... :wiggle:

We'll see.
