Microsoft is being sued over the X-Box 360s penach for going belly up with the Red Ring of Death...the system stops reading the discs. People have sent their systems in to be fixed, at a pretty steep charge, get them back and in short order get another Red Ring of Death.

These systems were rushed to the market too quickly...well, the PS3 took forever to get to market due to a ton, and I mean A TON, of problems that they needed to figure out.

Luckily, I have neither system. I have a slim-line PS2 and my wife has a Wii. I have all the games for PS2 that I care to play, have no desire to "upgrade" to the PS3. Hate the X-Box so would never think of buying one of those.

And my PS2 has never been online, never been played by anyone younger than 18 (my nephew is the only person other than me to play the system...and we were playing Champions of Norath together). I have PS2 games that I bought back in 2004 and they are still scratch free.

I've seen the inside of a X-box 360 I not so afraid of it any more. An when the dum @$$ thing stops reading CDs; the dam thing has over heated the DVD drive to much.

M$ desided to put the DVD drive right over one of the heat sink's.

I hate to say something like this being since I am in the repair business, but the quality of anything in this day and time is total junk. We are headed into a throw away economy. Some might not agree with me here but I have seen it head in that direction in the last 15 years, from a DVD player to a car, to a new home. Even the replacement parts that are being made today is total junk.

The quality of things has only improved, this has nothing to do with our disposable culture. The reason everything is building up to a throw away economy is due to cheaper costs. Back in the 80's everyone used to rent things like TV's and VCR's or at the very least pay a large amount for extra warranties or a repair service. They used to break down all of the time but we just accepted it, called the repair main and had it fixed. These days things are so (comparatively speaking) that it isn't worth the hassle of renting or forking out a small fortune for extended warranties because the chances of things going wrong (admittedly with the exception of the 360) are so much smaller in modern times.

These days things generally just don't break as much as they used to. However the technology is so integrated into our lives now that we make much more of a big deal about it than we used to, and if it breaks after 12 months it's now far more economically viable to just buy another one than get it fixed.

I hate to say anything about this also, as I, being a mechanical engineer and having done packaging ... well ...

Lets just say that MS got what they deserved by hiring some kid that took a night course in how to run a cad package and never took a day of engineering, let alone thermal analysis in his life.

Yes the RROD is a big problem for 360 but it is way overhyped. I have owned the same Xbox 36o sinceit's launch day and I play it quite often and I have NEVER had a problem. I also own a PS3 and I have not updated to this new firmware...and I don't plan to.

I have two 360's. One I got off of craigslist that is an Elite with Zephyr board, that has HDIM output. The 2st is one I got for free since the DVD drive had gone bad. It is Xenon board. Launch model and most likey to Red Light. None of them has Red Lighted. My Elite's Power brick over heated one but after it cooled it has worked since.

I have Nyko Intercooler TS for both of them. The Intercooler use its own power adapter, NOT XBox’s power port. I have a laptop cool base that was USB power that now has it own power adapter. I use Laptop cool base for more air flow.

I have both standing vertical, So I have blocks under them to let more air by.The pic below is the Launch model Xenon board 360 that I had to put a new DVD drive in with it's new legs and laptop cool base. It also has Fan Shroud Cooling Mod done to it. Link to pic below are not my 360 but it's about the same.

I've had my PS3 and PS2 since their launch and they never skipped a beat. I didn't give up on PS1 before the the piece that locks the disc on it's place fell apart..and still, on the formus where I go, there are multiple Xbox 360 owners that are on their 3rd or 4th, some even on their 5th 360 console.. despite casper, jasper jill and jones chipsets that MS claimed to fix the RRoD..

Lionus: I have a old fat PS2 and it works good, however I know that PS2 slim around here keeps going bad with in a year. I think people are just harder on the PS2 slims for some reason.

My Elite is a Zephyr board. Being the 2st motherboard M$ made for the 360 and the first to try to fix the RRoD, It was made 06-26-2007

The one I got for free has the Xenon board. Being the 1st motherboard for the 360 and most likey to RRoD. It was made 12-21-2006. This thing should be dead long ago. I got a new OEM DVD drive from amazon for 32$ U.S. and now it works. They burned out the first DVD drive from play it for 24 hours strate.

Both of them never have RRoD. When M$ says to keep them in the open, they mean WAY in the open. I gess I'm just beating the odds on the RRoD.:engel016: Than again I don't have Xbox live so I don't play it every day.
