A friend sent me some HD videos in "*.mkv" file type. Does anyone know of a good freeware program I can use to convert these to avi or mpeg2 so I can burn them to dvd ?

I went in search of a converter for you and the first three places I checked threw my anti-virus into overdrive. I'm not looking any more.

I did a google search, lots came up. I mean places where you can d/l a MKV converter. Here's a link to one:
http://www.ojosoft.com/video-converters/mkv-converter.html

Unlike OBIO above my antivirus didn't go nuts.
His mustve been throwing false positives.

I've been able to find programs on the web but was trying to see if I could find someone that has used one and knows they work properly, might have to try a couple myself.....thanks anyway guys. The ojosoft software looks like trailware only, usually got a heap of tools and decoders/encoders missing.
