Following a long delay caused by... umm... well, me not getting around to doing it, the release of the A2A Cub patch and it being the weekend has finally got me to upload the scenery I did for Lewisporte in Newfoundland to my website.

I've uploaded it to flightsim.com as well, but missed the cut-off and today's files had been posted, so that will hopefully appear at some point. In the meantime, it's available from http://www.ianpsdarkcorner.co.uk - just click on the link in the "news" article or the link in the sidebar under "Fictional Airfields".

There are no real changes since version 0.2 that was linked to here a while ago, so the chances are that the three people who want it already have it - you don't need to download it again unless you want the same scenery with a different version number. :d

Screenshots, courtesy of Nick C, are available on the scenery page. I won't upload them here, a) because it's a freeware scenery and I'm really bad at advertising and b) because Nick's shots always look better big than small. :)

I doubt it, I was uploading other images to the server at the time, adding a new file and uploading these is hardly a lot of work...you just caught me in a rare moment of generosity. :d

Better get the fire trucks ready if you think you're going to launch the cat from the lake...in fact, can you please record your attempt for us? :d

:icon_lol:

It has a follow-up coming along slowly, which may be rather more suited to Catalina ops. Apart from potentially one large lake, I'll have to make any other seaplane or flying boat/boat docks actually on the bays themselves.

The problem with the follow up is that I can't actually find an appropriate area for a land runway, so it could well end up being water ops only, if I'm not careful.

Thanks folks. :)

Thanks again for this Ian, I'm currently spending my fs time in the cub around lewisporte or buzzing about Italy in Skyunlimited's p38.

Lewisportes got some real character to it, great strip :ernae:

The follow up is very definitely suffering from Mission Creep - a term far too familiar, I have no doubt, to anyone who has ever worked on a Government contract.

However. It started out being a double inlet covering the towns of Bloomfield, Charlottetown, Jamestown, Lethbridge and a few others, going up to where the detail coverage on Google Earth ended. Then every time I modified a tile to put a lake in, I found more to do... I was last seen disappearing off around the Random Islands in a very apt and random way.

The problem is that I am now suffering from a lack of correlation between the low quality satellite images and the low density mesh, which means I am starting to get some significant cliffs. I really don't have the time or patience to sit there and carefully move poly vertices around until I find the bottom of the cliffs the hard way, so am tempted to just give it up as a bad joke and suggest people go out and get UTX Canada, the work of which I'm already duplicating. Add to that the fact that I cannot find anywhere suitable - other than the pre-existing real world location at Clarenville - to put a land runway and it's all seeming like a gross waste of time and effort at the moment.

Not that I'm doing anything right now anyway - I got a cold last weekend and my back decided to go nuts so right now I'm on my fourth day off work and second pack of strong painkillers that barely seem to be touching the pain. I have no idea when I'll get back to this, or the textures for the trucks I'm supposed to be working on for an RAF WW2 airfield.

Nice weather at Lewisporte today - NE wind gusting to 28 Mph, light rain, visibility 3 miles. It makes for a challenging circuit with a rather long downwind leg on 034 and a great sideslip approach. Anyone having trouble getting off the lake, now's your chance - just steer 031 and go for it!
