What a weird qualifying session...! :isadizzy:

The first victim, even before qualifying even starts, is Mark Webber who damages his car badly in practice session 3 and will not take part in qualifying. He will have t ostart from the pit lane because the team will have to use a new chassis to build Mark a new car.

In the first part of qualifying Buemi spins his Toro Rosso into the tyres at the Degner curves but he can continue and will make it into Q2. Not into Q2 are Liuzzi, Grosjean, Nakajima and Fisichella.

Early in Q2 Alguersuari crashes in the same spot as Buemi, but he slams into the barriers nose first and can not continue. The session is stopped for a while to clean up the car and repair the barriers. As soon as the session is underway again Glock understeers into the tyres in the last corner and hits the tyres hard. Another 'code red', but this time the driver does not walk away from the crash. Glock is lifted from the car by the medical team ands transported to hospital with a deep cut in his leg. Not yet sure if he will start tomorrow, but if he does he will join Mark Webber in the pitlane. Near the end of the session it is Buemi again who hits the wall coming out of the spoon curves, throwing debris on the track. He limps back to the pits, and will not start in Q3 because of the extensive damage to his car. Out of qualifying after Q2: Alguersuari, Glock, Kubica, Alonso and Rosberg.

Qualifiying session 3 is barely underway when Kovalainen spins at Degner's and hits the tyres; code red #3! Only six minutes left when the session continues, and Vettel takes the pole position, ahead of Trulli, Hamilton, Sutil, Barrichello, Heidfeld, Button, Raikkonen. Kovalainen and Buemi do not set a time and are respectively in P9 and 10.

During qualifying Renault launches a protest again Brawn for setting their fastest time under a yellow flag (The Buemi crash in Q2). After qualifying the stewards give a five position penalty to the following drivers: Sutil, Barrichello, Button and Alonso (!). Buemi will be set back the same amount of positions for driving his car back to the pits after his crash, which the stewards deemed unsafe ("impeding other cars and causing a potential hazard to other drivers"), and Kovalainen will get a five positions penalty for changing his gear box after his crash. Same thing goes for Liuzzi, the team had to fit a new box before the start of qualifying.

Confused yet..? :isadizzy:

Note:

It's amazing how often a motivated team will perform better for a home crowd.
I suppose they run 100% most of the time, and then go 101% for that weekend...
Schumacher at Monza was always a magical experience.
Agreed Jarno deserves a :ernae:
