Tire Outside Diameter Question; Tim Conrad?

Hey all,

Tim, I know you are an Aircraft and Powerplant technician. I thought you might know this one.

What is the outside diameter of a tire for say a Lancair ES or Cirrus? (I am assuming they use the same size tires).

Apparently Lancair's came with optional Goodyear Flight Custom II tyres in 15x6.0-6 size


This is upgrades to a higher quality tire than the standard tire that is included with kit. These are Goodyear Aviation (http://www.goodyearaviation.com/index.html) tires model Flight Custom II (http://www.goodyearaviation.com/custom3.html). The tire size is 15x6.0-6. Tubes are also included with these tires. Details on the Flight Custom II do not seem to be as readily available as for the newer Flight Custom III tires. The Flight Custom II is a 6 ply tire. It is rated for a rated speed of 160 mph. They are rated for a 1,950 lb load. They have a maximum inflation pressure of 68 psi. from http://www.lancair-es.com/CH00/Options.html

I checked the radius on the Cessna in FS and its at 12 inches. The ES is a large bird, so I think thats about right. (Maybe not as heavy as a 172, but certainly bigger).

Nope.. lol.. I dont think they actually wanted me to make theirs. I am doing my own design. Its a 4 place that looks similar to a Lancair ES, Cirrus, and with wings like a Diamond.

I can always measure one. The most common tire on the everyday 172, or 182 is 6.00x6, with 5.00x5 on the nose.
Bonanzas use 7.00x6, with 6.00x6. for the nose. Something like a Cessna 340 or 414 will have, like, 10.5x6 on the mains.
The C-5 Galaxy uses 20x OMG! And lots of them!
Several planes use the 15x6.00 tires due to space limits. The wells of a TR-182, or the fairings on a Cirrus are close quarters. So a smaller, higher pressure tire is used. Too close on the Cirrus, no airflow around the brakes, therefore chronic brake problems.:isadizzy:

Made measurements on C-172 main tire.
17.5" diameter, with a 7.5" rim diameter, and about 6-7" wide. Tire was inflated to 30LBS.
