My 'Weekend' started last Thursday with a visit to Schiphol (EHAM) and the close-by Aviation Mega store; I brought my camera because I wanted to visite the new spotter's site next to runway 36L. Although I'm not much of an airliner guy it's always nice to get so close to the aircraft when they take-off or land.

On Friday I went to Best, near Eindhoven to visit the 'Wings of Liberation' museum which is located on the landing grounds of the 101st during Market Garden, 65 years ago. Mostly objects and vehicles, but a few aircraft as well including this Cub:

On Saturday my hometown of Ede held the annual commemoration of Market Garden. A large heath field next to the road to Arnhem was used to drop the British and Polish Paratroopers. Since this year marks the 65th anniversary of Market Garden the event was a lot bigger than it was the last few years. Combine that with great weather and an estimate of 50,000 people showed up!

The show was opened by a few parapanters and a long line-up of WW2 vehicles:

1,000 para's jumped last Saturday, from three British and four American Hercs, and from one British Dakota. Paratroopers came from Holland, America (82nd), Britain, Poland and for the first time also from Germany!

On Sunday we went to the Sanicole airshow in Belgium. The weather seemed good, but it was too hazy for most VFR pilots and we were looking and taking photo's directly into the sun all day long.. :isadizzy: A few cancellations due to the low visibility, too bad the Spitfire, Hurricane and Sea Fury were among those.. Still plenty to see, but hard to get on camera. At least I can enhance the shot a lot with a bit of help from Picasa.

Since these are the only P-38 and one of the very few Corsairs flying in Europe, I'd rather see them flying with a logo of the company that's paying for them than not see them fly at all.

I don't get the "animosity" about the Red Bull logos on the planes. Red Bull spends a huge amount of money buying, restoring, maintaining, and showing a growing collection of vintage planes and war birds. If they advertise their product during the display of those planes, that just makes sense. After all, it is the sale of the Red Bull energy drink that pays for those planes, the restorations, the maintenance, the storage. No one complains about sponsor stickers on NASCAR cars. It could be worse, those war birds could be covered by sponsor stickers like your favorite race car.

Don't get me wrong guys, I'm as appriciative as the next plane nut that these lovely ladies are been restored, and it is been sponsured by these big corporations like Red Bull. To me it just spoils the appearence of them, I like my warbirds in wartime paints only. :icon_lol:
