DauntlessDriver546 here. I'm actually much, MUCH better known in the CFS-2 area, which is the primary simulator I fly.

HOWEVER, I just got my hands on a copy of Flight Simulator 2004, and it's still out there in Mailland coming my way. It'll be here in a day or two.

Anyway, I was just doing some shopping for some aircraft, and I would like your guys' opinions on these aircraft I'm looking for (i.e. - which are the best to download)

P-51C Mustang
Supermarine Spitfire Mks I -IX
MiG-21
F-100
F-104
F-105

I tried downloading the Ansaldo SVA.5, but the link doesn't work at all. Are there some planes that haven't been reloaded to here yet? Just curious.

Thanks guys!

welcome DD,
I use the Captainsim F-104 Primarily, but also have the Alphasim one both are good in their own respects... Virtual Cockpit in the captainsim one is better though (in my opinion), just watch yourself with the 104 below 150kts on approach shes a brick :icon_lol:

Supermarine Spitfire Mks I -IX

Hi!

Let me deal with this one.
From my personal point of view, the "best" Mk.I is offered by A2A/Shockwave/Wop, and I highly recommend the strictly awesome "P8088 / "The Borough of Lambeth"" repaint by John Terrell ("Bomber_12th" here at SOH) depicted below.

For the Mk.VIII / Mk. IX, the freeware release of the Alphasim version is great, as well as Paul Rebuffat's releases of several Merlin-powered Marks, such as the norwegian Mk.IXe "A-BY" repaint by Jens-Ole Kjølberg below.

Cheers,
Markus.

Welcome to the Dark Side, Spinner Boy! Boy, are you in for a world of fun.

Best P-51C that I have first hand experience with is the Donationware model. If you have the CFS2 version, it works just fine in FS2004, so there is no need to purchase the FS2004 version, but if you do decide to go that route, you will get to see the Mustang with fully reflective skins.

F-100: Donationware all the way

F-105: Alpha Sim freeware

Spitfires: I have a pile of Spits in FS2004, and they are mostly CFS2 models. Merlin66's early Spit Collection works fine in FS2004. Paul Rebuffat's Spits work just fine in FS2004. AlphaSim released their Spitfire package last year or so, and it comes with a Mk VIII and a Mk IX.

Haven't found a F-104 for FS2004 yet...actually, haven't looked for one yet. I believe Ito did up a F-102, 104 and 106. Don't think they have VCs though...lots of his planes don't hove VCs.

______________

A little side bar action if you please: When using CFS2 planes in FS2004, in order to get them to show under the selection window in true FS2004 style, all you need to add to the config file are these three lines:

ui_manufacturer =
ui_type =
ui_variation =

Once these lines are in place and set up, the planes will be listed by their manufacturer, then by type, and then by variation. Here's a look at how these three lines would look for the North American T-28A, since I copied these lines from Piglets T-28A:

ui_manufacturer = North American Aviation
ui_type = T-28A
ui_variation = U.S. Air Force

Okay, so you didn't request a source for a great P51-D, but you really have to get the freeware model done by Warwick Carter. It is available exclusively at Garry Smith's site and there are loads of beautiful add on textures available, too.

Oops... I'm sorry... I didn't mean to leave her out! :engel016:

Anyway, the links for the FS2004 A-26, Ansaldo SVA.5, and the SPAD XIII are dead-ends... are there other places these planes were uploaded to?

And are the Spitfires here at SOH? I forgot to ask that in my last reply.

Another vote for the Paul Rebuffat Spitfires and the D-Ware P-51C.

I'd look at FlightSim or AvSim for the Spitfires. Also Aeroplane Heaven had free the prototype Spitfire and Seafires.

Here's a link to Paul Rebuffat's aircraft page. His Spits and Bf109s all work in FS2004.

http://www.myzone59.com/rebuffat/accueil.php

Will dig up a link for the AlphaSim Spitfire package for ya. Be right back.

Here's a link to the AlphaSim freeware page, lots of good stuff for FS2004 here. Some links may not work, but some do.

WOW! Thank you guys so much for getting me started! I have like... 20 planes, and I don't even have the game yet!!

I have a VERY nice P-47M on the way from simviation, and I also am DL'ing that Ansaldo I want so much. I am lining up some nice Sea Hurricanes and SUPERFORTRESSES!!!

I love it... I can't wait 'til it gets here tomorrow... now, back to shopping for an F-15! :ernae:

I think this game might be better than FS 2002... :icon_lol: :medals:

Also look at anything by Milton Shupe. The best in freeware right there! His Beech D18 (C-45 for the CFS guys) is my all time favorite FS aircraft. He also did the Beech Grizzly with 75mm cannon in the nose.

If you like WWII fighters, then another "must-have" series is David Copley's Lightnings. His website is here:

We have a donationware plane here at SOH of a nice P-40 for FS2004. Brilliant paints on it.

I hope you get through the keyboard layout change when you get into FS2004. Going from CFS to FS9 is easier then going FS9 to CFS. The buttons layout is easier.

You will be able to get so much scenery and clouds and tons of things for your FS9. Its incredible....

IF you want an F-15, then the CORAL freeware model is what you want. Can't remember where I downloaded it from (flightsim.com most likely). It's NICE! Very nice! Just makes me wonder how much nicer the payware version is.

The payware F15 is no better but it does include the two seat version and the ACMI model, plus some of the most colourful repaints around.

Yup, the Ansaldo SVA is among those files who had the fortune not to be recovered. Let's hope the author will re-load it. I have the package saved somewhere on my disks, but don't have the right to upload it anywhere, so... sorry, can't help you. :kilroy:
