Okay so I know this is becoming pretty routine that i've been constantly posting these and the same 10 people on the forums are constantly getting annoyed by me, but once again, I suck with anything dealing with poking around at the 1's and 0's in the abyss of my hard drive but I still need help installing with the ETO expansion pack

So the first time I installed the darn thing, I didn't modify the batch files, thinking it was just recommended, so I didn't and it corrupted my era files, the sky and ground became all messed up, I couldn't swap eras and I had to actually end up uninstalling the whole game and re-install it to try again. I know i'm taking the long way around but I want to find the way that doesn't require me to mess with my files. So now i'm at that step where I just finished installing the ETO completely but I don't want to run it agian so I don't corrupt the global layer files. So on the read me, when it has instructions to modify the batch files, is that how I should exactly do it, and if so, if my CFS3 default location on vista is in the C:\program files (x86)\ Microsoft Games section, is this still what I need to do??? Somebody please answer becaues I feel like i'm disarming a bomb here

Well you'll just have to mess with some files, old chap. Screenshots of what to do will be uploaded after I get back from work and the kids are in bed. :running:

Nil desperandum! (apologies to those who know Latin - it's been a long time since schooldays)

another thing, so the example that is on the read me, it instructs you to chage the line that says CD then the location to change it to D:\CFS3 ETO Expansion\global_layer does this work for everybody, if so what needs to be changed and how???

Hey swimmer111

That's only an example, You must put in the address of where your ETO install is located so if your install is in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\CFS3 ETO Expansion You will change that line to be C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\CFS3 ETO Expansion\global_layer

HTH Cheers :ernae: and have always good flying

Right, to business!

I am assuming you've installed ETO to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games which holds the folder CFS3 ETO Expansion

Open Windows Explorer (Windows key + E) and navigate to the ETO folder. Find the file MASTERETOSTARTUP.bat and right-click on it.

On the pop-up menu that appears click on Properties and the following box appears:-

Untick the Read-only button and click on OK.

Now right-click on the file again and select Edit. The file opens in Notepad:-

Change the directory path as follows:-

Save the file without changing the name and close it. If you get an error message, you haven't unticked Read-only in the file properties.

Right-click on the file again and tick Read-only in the File properties again, and click on OK

Now navigate to the global_layer sub-directory, find the file ETOGLSwapper.bat and right-click on it.

Click on Properties as before and untick Read-only as before, then click on OK. Right-click on the file again and click on Edit. The file opens again in Notepad:-

Change the directory paths as shown below:-

Then scroll down to the end of the file:-

Change the directory path as shown:-

Save this file, again without changing the file name, and close it. Right-click on the file again, select Properties, tick Read-only again and click on OK.

You're done! Hope this helps.

...wow, it really amazes me how truly simple this stuff actually is, it just is a matter of finding the right place to look, I do amaze myself with my inability to edit all this stuff. I seem to be one of those rare cases where all I do is play the game, and have no extensive knowledge on software developement

thanks guys, much appreciated
I'm actually really impressed with everyone here, even in the forums the names are becoming familiar, and I can definitley tell this is a pretty tight knit community (because flight sims just aren't that popular) but hey, you guys are great, much appreciated.
