View Full Version : Help! I can't get my cfs2 to find my swordfish weps

I downloaded Fairey Swordfish Floatplane to my sim and for the life of me can't get it to find any of the weps. They are right there in objects_dp folder along with all the other weps (which are found) but cfs2 sys it can't find any of them. any suggestions? :isadizzy:

Are the respective files of those weapons as well installed into the root/scendb/weapons (scenery and texture)folders?

Yes, they are. I've been sitting here tweaking for a while and just realized something. It's not looking for the dp files, it was looking for bgl files.
I copied them from \weapons\scenery to scenedb\library and like magic, they appeared!! How come this happened? I'm still new to this, but figuring things out fast. This last ordeal only took 4and a half hours! ;-)

Now funny thing. Without having done anything, cfs2 cannot find the files again. What gives?!?!?

Go into the SceneryDB/Weapons/Scenery folder and delete the filelist.bat file. Then fire the sim up and see if that fixes the problem.

Thanks Obio, unfortunately, it didn't do the trick. would a re-install do it?

Funny thing, It doesn't show them, but I still "load them" and use them. I can't see the bombs as they fall, but boy, do they sure explode good.
I re-installed cfs2. still nothing.

Save the reinstall for a last resort thing.....in most cases, the problem can be found and fixed.

Object Dp files in Object DP folder?

Weapons/Scenery files in Weapons/Scenery folder?

Weapons/Texture files in Weapons/Texture folder?

You placed just the files into the needed folers, right....you copied the files out of the folders they were in and pasted them into the proper folders....you did not copy the folder into the folder, right?

the dp's are straight into the objects_dp folder (no sub-folders)
scenedb\weapons\scenery has the bgl files directly in there
scenedb\weapons\texture has the 2 bmps in there.
I deleted the filelog.dat and it re-generated a new one after I started it again.
Still nothing. see my last added post. they blow up, you just can't see them and I get an error when I select the plane.

This problem sounds like the [GUNSTATIONS] entries are missing from the dp file. Captfish, how about posting your Swordfish's dp file here so we can take a look at it.

OK, the GC Swordfish Float package with HMS Rodney. I d/l'ed the same airplane this afternoon from Flightsim, installed it and tried all the ordnance load-outs. All the weapons appear on the aircraft and work fine. My aircraft's dp file is same as yours. If you have double-checked to insure all the weapons dp files are in the objects_dp folder, the weapons bgl files are in the scenedb/weapons/scenery folder, and the texture bmp files are in the scenedb/weapons/texture folder, and you've accounted for all the files, I am at a loss as to what is causing the invisible weapons. Do you see the weapons when you select the plane and loadout, before you start flying? You did copy the individual files into the appropriate folders (see Obio's post), right? If you have those bgl files inside a scenery folder inside the main CFS2 scenedb/weapons/scenery folder, they won't work.

What other bgl's I have in there are not seen either!
This is screwy!

It seems my problem is CFS2 not being able to read the weapons\scenery files.
I reinstalled CFS2 to no avail.

When I get a corrupted file such as screandb weapons I find putting it into the top folder, "addon", is better that trying to delete it or past it over with a new file - which I have done with poor results.
Once the file is out of the way I add a new file from my stock game and go at it. Before u add the new files to it, try it out in the game to be sure it is working, (or not) you did mention the other files in there don't show up either, right? If weapons now show up, try to add the new files. If the new files arn't working then I'd say your'e being "punished" - only kidding.... That's all I got - hope it helps...don

Yes, you heard it. I have a 2nd computer for my son's games and we love playing cfs2 XP would not recognize my thrustmaster WCS so we just got a cheap, er, free dell, maxed out the ram, put a 64mb video card, 120gig drive and viola, a "gaming" computer!

OK, Don, you are definitely on to something here, I took EVERYTHING out of weapons\scenery and put it into \addon I took the wep bgl's and put them back into \scenery and BAM, there they are now.
There are other files that were not bgl's in that scenery folder. they were .r8 files. ?!?! Are these supposed to be in this folder? or could it be corrupting something (like the filelist.dat?) Where should they go?
I can post the contents.

THANKS you guys, everyone, for your input. I'm learning all this stuff and still pretty new at it.

You have me on the .r8 files. I can not believe they belong there. I also ment to ask if you receintly added an automatic program to your game which may have caused a problem. Any way I'm glad to have been of some service to you.
If I have a corrupt file such as a mission file, or folder that I can not fix, I find that moving the whole folder to another empty folder such as the 'addon' folder seems to take the problem with it (what can I say - computers are wierd) and then replacing with a known-to-be correct one seems to cure the problem. don

It certainly worked for me. I should have thought of that myself in the first place. I never thought to clear out the whole thing. I had a few auto install planes that gave me a little problem (Ohka, Me-262) they installed in the aircraft folder without their own subfolder. Confused the heck outta me.
Well, now that I have that little problem solved, I've got this little problem with the ailerons not wanting to work all the time. Not a joystick problem because it happens using the keypad too. I'm thinking game card getting too hot. Ever hear of this?

For captfish & anyone else who doesn't know how to do this.

I don't trust the auto installers, I put everything in manually ... but how do you get the plane out of that danged .exe? :confused:

Easy; First rename your main CFS2 folder (stick a 1 or an "a" at the end )
Then make a new "Combat Flight Simulator 2" folder in the Microsoft Games folder.
Then run the auto installer. This will put the new plane into the new CFS2 folder.

Your new plane & all needed files will be in this new "dummy folder" all nicely organized into the proper folders. Now install them into the corresponding folders in CFS2

Once the dummy folder is empty, delete it & remove the 1 or a from the original CFS2 folder.

You are now done .... have a beer or 12 7174

I ran CFS2 on a DELL P3 866 Desktop up until about a year ago. Only had a 32MB GPU (no space for a vid card) It ran OK but the image quality sliders were all at the lowest setting or else it was: "slideshow city". But I really don't think the card is the problem in your case.

A while back one of the guys here had a similar problem. (don't remember who) If I recall correctly (after a week or two of poking around with no luck at all) He found there was some simple joystick setting in CFS2 that was incorrect & once discovered solved the problem, quick, fast & in a hurry.

Sorry but I just can't seem remember the specifics. Perhaps he'll read this tread & enlighten us? Maybe this info will help steer you in the right direction.

Yeah, Win98. I'm still disgruntled at Microshaft for hosing everyone who had the WCS. I'd be curious to see if anyone experienced this and what everyone else uses. CFS2 runs great on win98 I have a pentium 3 dell, the 64mb card is good enough for cfs2. We have CFS3 I got in 2001 or so and never got to play it until a couple months ago. We don't like it. CFS2 definitely rules. You seem to be able to do so much more with it.

Yes, I've learned how to get around the autodebacle.exe problem. I throw everything into the temp file and sort it from there.
That was probably the reason I had this problem. something put into the wrong file caused that. Well, another lesson learned!

This aileron thing is wierd. I was about to get a mini fan and put it on the game card. I recall thrustmaster had this card that "Overcame Heat Drift"
caused by the card getting hot. I can't remember that thing exactly. It was years ago when I first started playing CFS2. This thing has been on the shelf for years. Now my son is old enough and interested, it put the spark back in me to not only play, but add on planes, missions, etc. So it's something new I'm learning.
OK, I'm rambling. thanks for the info. I'll "tweak" around with it and see if I can get it fixed. It's hard enough to take on 3 Zekes in a wildcat alone, but with no ailerons, it's suicide!

The guy that had the problem was also using a ThrustMaster stick!
