I have a Pentium 4 3.0 ghz system with 1gig RAM, Intel Desktop Board D915GAG, with a Pentium 915G Express Integrated Chipset for my graphics (OUCH), and XP Pro.

I'm looking at the NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS PCI-E cards. I can get the 256mb pretty cheap, but I'm wondering if it's worth spending more for the 512mb? Or would that just be overkill for my system?

Thanks!

What resolution will you be playing at? Also I think the 7600 has a 128bit memory bus which is overkill. 256mb for a 128bit bus is the usable max IMOP.

My monitor is set at 1680x1050

the 512mb version 'might' be worth it, but its 128bit memory bus will still limit the card a lot.

It sounds the 512mb might have been realeased just to sell more of the 7600?

Yup, pretty much.

I am running an AGP based Nvidia 7600GS (512meg) in my P4 3.0gig system and am very happy with it...of course, the sytem before this one had a 1.8gig Athlon processor and a 128meg video card, 756meg of Ram. When this system was given to me, complete with a 17 inch LCD monitor, I was floored at the performance increase.
