Piglet's WACO UPF in FSX

After taking my new RA Duke from Cleveland to Seattle (via Texas to LA then North), I decided to do some flying around the area in more simple aircraft, as I enjoy so much in the Seattle/B.C. area.

So....I decided to scour my airplane folder for some neglected aircraft.....first up was Piglet's Mooney Mini Mite:

What a great aircraft, thoroughly enjoyed my flight...but...I wanted a biplane. I reinstalled Sanderson's Stearman, and realized why I removed it following SP2. So, I was on a mission to get some new biplanes in my FSX hanger, one of which I purchased was the Icarus Gloster Gladiator, which is a beast, so I'm saving this one to fly a large part of my journey back to Cleveland. Thus, I still searched for a more 'docile' collection, and got a few, installed, modified, etc.

This morning I decided to take a flight from Tofino to Port Hardy, but the weather was lousy in Tofino. Not to be discouraged, I remembered that Piglet's WACO (partially converted to FSX, and I found some other missing gauges to use in the panel) had some IFR instrumentation, so I loaded it up. Man, Tim did a great job with this freeware model. This baby flies wonderfully, and the attention to detail was impressive. After a two hour flight, I can surely attest to Tim's mastery, and I cannot say enough how I appreciate guys like him still providing quality freeware for FS. :applause:

What a great flight, and a great aircraft.

And you developers....we needs some more quality/updated biplanes for FSX! :icon_lol: hint hint....

BTW Piglet released a full FSX version of the Waco available right hear at SOH, UPF-7_FSX.zip

That is the one I downloaded, but I was still missing a couple instruments....maybe I missed something...I used the Maul's compass and actually replaced the other with an RXP RMI gauge (using liberties with a couple custom pop-ups for a NAV2 and an ADF radio set).

Ah yes I remember now.
You need to copy the Cessna208_XML.cab and AirCreation_582SL.cab from there respective panel folders to the Gauges folder for the compass and volt meter to work.
Piglet forgot that in the readme but it came up in the planes release thread. I think that thread is long gone though due to the server crash.

Ed Wells did these for the Fs9 version but they work well in FsX:applause:

That's cool. Perhaps it's me that do not pay attention enough, but I have never seen many repaints for the planes from Piglet. I have almost all of them in my FSX hangar, and the Super Tucano may be the only one that ever received an additionnal repaint... I remember that the FS9 Hind has many, but the others....

My uncle on my mothers side was a USAAF instructor at the beginning of WWII, and i've got this picture of him standing beside what pretty much looks like a waco.. I never met him though. He was killed ferrying planes over to europe, and when i came along, well,, the first word out of my mouth was "airplane" not daddy, so everybody, especially my mom, freaked.. ::chuckles:; oh well..
Downloading Piglets waco now. it'll be interesting to sseee what my uncle saw.. :D even if it's only virtual..

My father was in the AF following WWII. He trained in the Piper Cub. His instructor told him he would never become a pilot. He then moved up to a T-28 Trainer, and ultimately became a pilot in SAC, flying the the old KC-97 re-fuelers (military version of the B-377) and B-25's. I guess that first instructor was wrong :173go1:

Was only around one biplane as a kid during my fathers flying days, but I have no idea what it was. He had a friend that had one hangered around the old original Columbus International Terminal/tower. A few times we would visit, and my father would help drag it out of the hanger, and fire it up. I do remember being impressed with the sound. We would then scurry up to the old tower and watch him take-off. Great memories.

it runs fine in sp2 :),, not sure where the extra liverys are at though.. wou;d love to know, they're drop dead gorgeous..
