Hey guys,

Here are some 'work in progress' screenshots of the Wittman Tailwind project I have been working on. Thought you might like to see its progress.

Blue model is the W8, and the orange stripes model is a W10.

Cool! I recognized it in your signature from my EAA magazine and had a feeling it's what you were working on. It's looking good!

Thanks guys,

I have studied them pretty closely now. Amazing little planes, and quite small. They are more like a British MG or a little Porsche Speedster. Light, very small, very narrow wingspan, very fast. The orange one cruises at 180 MPH and maxes out at 200 MPH. Very quick little birds, but they land fast too. They do not have wings set up for slow speeds, so touch down is at 65 MPH with full flaps, which still isnt too bad.

In this set, the blue one is powered by a less powerful engine, and is similar to the British version Ajep production plane, but not a true copy. This is a W8 (blue one) with a Ajep rudder. Many people made the raked back rudder as it was a bit stylish.

Standard wings are wood ribs covered with a rare Japanese multi layer plywood skin, sealed up with no access panels, no rivets, no panel lines. Ultra smooth. Some people have or are making them with aluminum wings with wing tanks. The real Tailwinds have the tank under the panel similar to early Cessna's, Pipers, and the like. (Makes balance a bit easier, but reduces fuel capacity and area).

The beauty of this aircraft is the simplicity of styling. Bill, you have mastered its true look and feel. At first glance, it looks too simple, then you go in close and observe the beautiful detailing, the excellent joins and curves, the gear, the prop. Love that tail wheel mechanism. :medals:

Which site does Bill use for the purchase of his planes? I have searched but haven't found the right place!

That is Sascha's brilliant Pattonville Germany scenery. Its about 5 min's North of Stuttgart. I highly recommend it, but I have no idea where I got it, and it is Freeware as well. Sascha does scenery for Aerosoft.
