YF-23, what great lines: from the slick underbelly intakes to that sexy tail section, to the SR-71 like flange running around the cockpit area of the fuselage (not so evident in the screenshots)... a very elegant looking design.

Why is the Star and Bar on the wrong wing? Flipped shots?
Did have a YF-23 on the list. Even went and got a POH

My bad... (consider it a stealth characteristic.....!!!)

Btw, this isn't a YF-23... it's a F/A-23.....

I'm sure it's work in progress, but don't forget to get that star and bar sorted, there's something wrong with the proportions.

Great looking model always been a favourite. As usual the more radical design (non-lockheed) lost - I also prefer Boeings JSF - it's just so radical and futuristic looking.

Proportions of the Star and Bar? Or of the plane?

The plane is perfect as far as we can tell. We actually WENT to the museum and took measurements and a TON of pics, so I would say we're pretty darned close... However, not being one to not listen, please tell us and show us where we went wrong and we will be happy to fix it. That's, after all, what this posting is for. Show and tell... we show and you tell.

Thanks,

KC

Great bird, looking forward to it!

I have a question for those who know this aircraft intimately - with the tailfins being spread at such an angle away from the vertical, how do they get the rudder to work? I would think that, if it were set up like on the V-tail of the bonanza, the rudders would act like ailerons because they are so far away from the bank axis.
Does anyone know?

The production team is fortunate to have the 200 page manual to refer to , it’s a total Gas to use in sim after having done so many prop aircraft back to back to strap into a Jet , as well having as many pilots on the team is a real bonus with this production , from the FDE to the Carrier Rated Fighter Jet Pilot as part of the Beta Team this consortium is putting together some sled indeed. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

They`re not called rudders... they`re ruddervons and they work in tandem with the elevons. (split aerilons). It`s an FBW system that, without a computer system to fly the plane, would crash and burn in an instant. The F-16, F-22 and other newer planes all work essentially the same way. All of the flight controls are working at the same time even without any pilot input...

A few more with the new specular and bump maps in play, as to repainting this model there are no special challenges involved , no scaled or squished maps and there are no mirrored wings or body maps so all surfaces can have their own artwork .
A layered PSD will be released with the model .

Thanks B Bob , but credit needs to be spread out to the team involved.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
My role is as the technician, i am forwarded the " raw " model and its psd files in this case produced by Colin and his team from MilViz.<o:p></o:p>
Once i have them in my hot little hands i process the raw psd's and turn them into dds files and begin setting up the materials in FSX to best portray the aircrafts surface finish to represent the real world counterparts characteristics , some are matt , others shiny and those panel and rivets and the bump maps that represent them go through several revisions before there is some sort of consensus on the part of the design team and beta testers that we are “ Go “.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Next up i do all the animations and their assignments , then 3D modelled gauge codes and any custom XML visibility conditions or animated bits required and tie all that to the cockpit switches and lighting that go in to that particular aircraft, finally the aircrafts gauges are brought in line with the .AIR files requirements and its off to get further tested by the team for a last time before the real beta tests begin with a wider group to try and spot any deficiencies.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
There are currently two aircraft in the pre release beta stage , i see a number of SOH members are involved in vetting these and giving their feedback so improvements can be made and the wishlists presented can in some measure be fulfilled , but one thing is certain it takes a focused team approach to get one of these produced and credit is earned by them all for their efforts.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
The YF-23 is through the first stages and currently getting the cockpit animated , its gauges installed . <o:p></o:p>
Here are a few previews of the cockpit as it comes to life , i started with the HUD so it was flyable and was working on the auto pilot yesterday, three of the display screens are done and active. <o:p></o:p>
