Affectionately known as The Jug, the P-47 Thunderbolt is as big as the American Spirit and holds a unique honor in the ranks of World War II fighters. Ironically the original concept was born in Russia and can be seen by its rugged and hearty design. Like a gentle giant, the P-47 handles with grace but packs an enormous punch. This plane was much heavier and bulkier than other fighter planes of its day, outweighing aircraft like the Fw 190 by several thousand pounds.

Equipped with a large, powerful radial engine, it looked as tough as it was. However, when British pilots first saw the P-47, it was often mocked due to its size. The light, maneuverable Spitfires could get on a P-47s tail with ease in test trials. What they didn't know at that time was the P-47 was different type of fighter and the battles were to be fought at higher altitude where the air is thin, using high-energy tactics. Both the British and the Germans soon found out, in the right hands, the P-47 was lethal.

Well done, as always. I know these can't be cheap to produce, but there is no better way of showing the model quality, and esp. of features like bump mapping and specular shine.

Excellent video production Cody, I had to download and see the WVM version). I noticed toward the end when the sky was clear, you had a harsh blending with the blue sky textures (sharp divisions). I had those too, but when I install the latest 181.20 nVidia drivers, BOOM, they were gone. Just thought I'd pass it along.

BTW, what video editor do you use? I am just getting started with something several steps up from Windows Movie Maker, but I am pure novice. I have the mid-line Sony Vegas platform.

I still don't have the juice to power FSX while recording like that, however. No problems with FS9, but FSX is strictly for flying and screens, a little too lagging while in FRAPS record mode and forget about recording in Instant Replay!

Sony Vegas is probably one of the better ones to drop into that doesn't blow your mind out of the water. I'm using Vegas myself, and I highly recommend it. After Effects and a lot of those programs are often overkill for this work, but they can produce hand crafted effects that Vegas cannot touch. Vegas can do 95% of what the other editors can do, and if you put your mind to it you can do most anything... MOST however, not all.

LOL! Thanks. That landing was quite intentional actually. I took some flak for it, but everyone makes GREAT landings. I wanted to show off the plane with a BAD one. :D

Yes, this landing reminds me of the wartime pilot getting back to base exhausted who couldn't care less about making a nice landing - he just wants the plane on the ground. It also shows the inherent ruggedness of the p47.

This is Cody flying, and you will see him make a nice 8 point roll. This guy is not just a great video producer, but I get the feeling he is quite the pilot as well.

BTW, I was just watching the P40 video with my son, Captain Jakey, and I said, “Jake, watch this scene.” It was the nice fast fly by down the runway just before the 8-point shot. Capt Jake’s response was, “Yea Dad, he makes good fly by's, ... NOT like YOU.”
