Well it's not exactly new , but with the interest in the Alphasim Cessna 170B these make a way better addition than the wimpy default sounds.

Turbine Sound Studios would like to present you a new freeware soundpack, this time its for the Cessna 172. The Cessna 172 uses the Lycoming O-360 4cyl Boxer engine, that meens it can also be used with the Cessna 152 model, as they also use the 4 cyl Boxer engine ( A little less power ) But they sound pretty much the same. Thanks for the heads up, Pete. One can never have too many sound packs. I am currently looking at a collection of 167, not counting the stock Fs2004 sound packs that I have not moved into my dedicated sound pack folder.

But this ISN"T the sound file to use with Alpha's 170

To the best of my knowledge 170s (A and B) models were fitted
with a Continental O-300 which doesnt sound anything like
Lycoming O-360 plus the fact that given the TSS 172s were
fitted with three bladed props is an altogether beefier sound
than any 170 I have heard from the inside or the ground.

You are correct, the 0-300 was fitted to the 170.

But I can't stand the wimpy default sounds offered and I like something with grunt.

There are conversion engines such as the Continental IO-360, Lycoming O-360, and Franklin 350 that were available for the Cessna 170.

Thanks for the link to the new/old sounds. Like OBIO, it's always nice to have extra sounds on hand.

Another note, in addition to those already mentioned, the 170B had a 6 cylinder as opposed to the 4 banger in the above pkg.

I will have to try the sounds out though and see how my ears like it. Right now I have the 170B's sound aliased to the 150 L pkg.

Actually the Franklin sounded EVEN less like the 0-360

I would suggest if you desire an authentic 170 sound set someone go to their local airport and record either a 170 or an early 172 .

Last time I looked ALL Continental 0-300s had six cylinders :blind:

Agreed. The Franklin is a whole different species and if you don't hear it running...good luck finding parts anymore.

Yep, Continental 0-300s had six cylinders. The sound package at the beginning of this thread is of a Lycoming O-360 4cyl Boxer engine. That is why I mentioned it...even though the sound pkg may be pretty good for FS use (I still have to try it out).

The best bet would be an authentic recording....but I'm not going out anytime soon to make that happen.....but we can dream.

Those (like me) that have never heard the difference probably wouldn't care anyway!:engel016:

I've had that sound set in my default C172 for a few months now. I keep it in the default plane's folder so that anything else that wants to alias to that plane doesn't have to be re-aliased.

:icon_lol: :icon_lol: I hear ya, Tom. I've got a whole hangar of birds with non-authentic sounds.....but they sure make me happy to hear 'em. :wave:

As long as the soundset is loud I'm cool with it; according to several pireps the 170 was notorious for being loud in the cabin; the O-300 was smooth but noisy and many 170 drivers put in a fair amount of soundproofing in the cabins even if it does add weight and hurt climb rate. Too bad Lawdog doesn't do GA engines; now that would be cool...:)

Well as I now have access to Soudpack Pro studio (the recording and Radio Industry standard) I might try my hand at digitizing some sounds

Especially since I now access to a couple of sources for speicifically
Old British Light Engines :) Although a good Pobjoy sound file still
elludes me :( - I should have good Gypsy,Cirrus,Bombardeer (yes I know
its NOT spelt that way , I just didnt feel like fielding questions about the
Canadian product) JAP , etc etc . I can find 0-300/0320 and even a G0-300 right here at North Las Vegas. The Frank? I sat behind one in a 108-2 for quite a while - as you say nice engone when it ran, but a bugger to get parts.
