I'm glad to see y'all getting lots of development practice in as you work towards bringing the C-46, C-119, and Helldiver to MSFS. <grin>

And the F3F-2, of course. That's your masterpiece!

I'll of course buy the Electra and have fun with it in order to help fund those developments! It looks fantastic.

Should give all the GPS haters one less thing to complain about!

For those that dont follow us on facebook or youtube heres some of the news from today.

We have released the dedicated electra web page found here

https://www.aeroplaneheaven.com/product_electra.php

There's a manual to download should you want to get to grips with the Electra early and a lot more screenshots.

We also have made a youtube video introducing the Electra and doing a quick start and fly around. We took the comments on board that we received on our commentary previously and this time have left the running commentary going. Obvious mistakes and insane australian birds were cut but its more of a warts and all commentary. We think it works.

Thanks for watching.

Very cool!

And don't let my earlier post imply I'm not excited about the Electra! Just having a lot of your awesome planes on earlier sims I want them all!

But in the meantime, can't wait to fly this. Looks awesome.

Sorry Im not sure, now I see the price is 0 and you cannot buy thread at this store (this buy button doesnt work), you still have to wait for simmarket or PC Aviator if you are from Europe.

Ok I need to talk to my bank about securing a line of credit to support my addon addiction, because as with the Ju-52... I cannot possibly NOT buy this lol.

The feature set lists "legacy sound". What does that mean?

LostPilot

The feature set lists "legacy sound". What does that mean?

"The sound set uses legacy files.
Although these sounds are authentic P&W engine sounds, we MAY be upgrading to a WWise soundpack at a later date."

It means they are using loose .wav files and probably have a higher likelihood of a few issues: Audible looping, jarring transitions between files, etc. It's not a deal breaker for me but it's very amusing that they list this in a section called "Innovative features"

bazzar
September 29th, 2021, 16:29
Technically, it is just under "Features". However, we are happy with the soundset but may change to full WWise later if all goes well enough.:engel016:

We are proud to announce the release of the Electra 10 A for MSFS. Please note we are based in Australia where the sun is hot , the beer is cold and the internet is very slow. We will update our buy now page with the other vendors as soon as the uploads eventually get stored and they are put into the various shops .

You can right now buy from our shop both on here or from our site.

The feature set lists "legacy sound". What does that mean?

There are two ways to produce sounds for MSFS. The first is to use the previous P3D/FSX style of production which is called "Legacy" the other is to use a new system called WWise which Asobo have introduced with MSFS. Currently, there is a wave of enthusiasm for WWise mainly I think, because it is a new shiny thing. We are quite happy with the current sound set but may change later to the new one. WWise sets are notoriously complex and very expensive things to produce so we have to see how she goes.:engel016:

Totally fair bazzar. Now, I'm off to go fly an Electra, legacy sounds are probably the last thing I'd use as a reason not to get it!

$40 CAD and lacking basic features like a native sound package? This sort of thing was acceptable when the sim was first released but that is a deal breaker for me at that price point. Hopefully that will be addressed in a future update, I enjoyed the sound package included in the Spitfire but even that was missing basic features like a soundai package, which left the Spitfire completely silent while flying with friends in multiplayer.

The wave of enthusiasm for Wwise is because it is objectively better than the legacy sound and allows for a much more immersive experience, not simply because it's new.

I enjoyed my first flight overall, but I have some misgivings about this addon. The sounds are one of them. They sound quite last-gen. I know there's a chance they'll get updated, I hope it becomes a reality.

Otherwise, I'm very confused about several INOP elements that are blamed on SU5.

Tail wheel lock INOP. The Corsair has a working tail wheel lock. So does the MilViz Porter. Maybe MilViz is the only one who knows the secret?
DME INOP. Since when did SU5 break DME? I have several aircraft with working DME, including third party.
Limitations on the Sperry seem fuzzy... again things are just blamed on the core sim in ways that we're supposed to trust, but the two above do not seem to be honest explanations.

It sounds to me that SU5 broke some things during development and rather than fix them, the addon was shipped in this state on top of the sounds being deemed "good enough." I'm trying not to be negative here because I do like other aspects of the addon, but for this price point I hoped for more. Opening windows would have also been nice (as well as getting rid of the weird flickering contact point between the pants of glass), but I imagine opening the windows would reveal a lack of sound attenuation. I know I'll take some heat for saying this but ~$20 would have been a much fairer asking price. Adding some sunbeams because I know this all sounds like a gripe: I have no real reason not to trust AH to improve this. I just hope they do, because the Electra is so worth the attention, and I absolutely thank AH for bringing it to MSFS in the first place.

I just completed my first flight in the Electra and I must stay its very nice. One thing I could not figure out though, using the modern avionics I could not get the NAV button to work on the autopilot, is there something special I need to do to activate that?

We are currently producing a Service Upgrade for the Electra which will address a few issues with the autopilot. Should be available this week. :engel016:

Can you provide any sort of readout of what else is planned for that service upgrade, Bazzar?

I saw the sliding side windows mentioned, now some aspects of the AP, but is there anything else we can know in advance?
I have flown this model 10 of yours for years going back to FSX and am very happy to have it again in MSFS - thank you

Apart from fixing bugs, our focus has been the operation of the Sperry. We are discontinuing the modern avionics as the response has been somewhat underwhelming on that component. It was also interfering with the Sperry.

We need to point out that the Sperry Gyropilot is NOT and autopilot. You will find the Sperry system in the DC-3 when that arrives and we take special care to make sure people understand exactly what a Sperry is and what it does. It was a first real attempt at providing some degree of automation in the aeroplane to maintain a heading, height and when necessary a climb or descent attitude. The top compass cylinder is really just a desired heading indicator. You turn that to select the next heading you want. The Sperry does and should not follow the desired heading like a modern autopilot would. That is the job of the pilot who, when it is time to turn, disconnects the Sperry, turns the aeroplane until the gyro (bottom) cylinder matches the desired heading (top) cylinder reading and then re-instates the Sperry.

Lots of other stuff which we will put into a changelog.:engel016:

Well that is disappointing, the fact that it had the modern avionics options was a factor in my decision to purchased it.
