How to look around ??

Hi everybody, back on-line now after my motherboard and PSU crapped out a year ago.
Re-installed MSFS2020 also...... picking up where I left off a year ago.

Been looking through all settings, reading forums, Googeling, but cannot find it..... maybe because it isn't possible?

I am talking about panning the cockpit- and outside views using my POV on my joystick or yoke. I can only ' quick' view left or right, but not PAN !! Am I missing something ???

Thanks Priller, interesting indeed. Unfortunately, it didn't answer my question on how to pan around using the POV on the joystick (instead of wildly swiping one's mouse around next to a keyboard) :banghead:

Hey Francois, good to see you back in MSFS!

Here's the trick to panning vs snap with the hat. Just remap the hat as follows:

There are quickview/snap view commands for the hat, and panning commands. Just need to delete the quickview mappings and add the panning views.

I don't use the POV to look around anymore - too much of a pain to set up. Right-click and crag the camera around to look anywhere you want, then use the arrow keys to move your position.

The hat setup in DennyA's screenshot has worked great for me right from the beginning. Remember this is only for use in the VC, you'll have to do the same for the External Views !

I use the right click and drag method aswell , but since su5 , right clicking my mouse , will block all my joystick inputs. :dizzy:
So when i am in the vc looking around on final , i cant use my jostick as long as i keep my right mouse button clicked .

Got a PC again and am now tinkering with not one but FOUR filghtsims. Cannot make up my mind yet..... :biggrin-new:
LOVE the MSFS for the views outside, so using it for that now. For the home cockpit, not so much yet....

Another hint to make panning easier (for me anyway) and similar to how it worked in FSX and P3D. You can adjust the speed and momentum of the panning. This can be done in the main menu, or in flight via the camera menu. There is a separate slider for speed and momentum, and also these can be adjusted individually for inernal cockpit camera or external view. I generally leave speed at default and set the momentum to 0. Like this your view stops panning the second you release your hat switch.

Not sure if it's default, but my "end" key gives me a standard external view where I can still control the aircraft and look around using the hat switch, and "Ins" key toggles the drone camera, which can be moved using the drone camera keys. Even easier, get a Rift S or some other VR headset and don't worry about panning at all! :biggrin-new:

Thanks Scott ! Yes, End and Insert are default I think..... VR.... hmmmm.... building a home cockpit.. that sort of would beat the purpose..... and SWAMBO would beat me ..... :dizzy:
