Ghostrider, where did you get your version of the movie? There is a Kamikaze movie I'd like to get (there are clips on YouTube) but I can't find it listed on any of the DVD sites my searches bring up.

Thanks for the links to the Yamato movie. I don't mind English subtitles at all, I actually prefer the voices to be original. That Kamikaze flick is not the one I'm looking for, although it looks interesting and the price is right. The title of the one I want is Ore Kimi (For Those We Love), it's about Japanese Army pilots scheduled to fly suicide missions. Looks to have some good CGI flying scenes.

Wow - I'd like to see that Kamikaze movie - I'm glad the Japanese are making films like these - but I do see a trend towards revisionist history -"poor little victim" Japan in WWII. It's good to get both sides' perspective - I just hope they are totally honest about everything that happened on both sides. Wonder if they'll make a film about Nanking?

The only DVD I could find was a NTSC version, but Hong Kong or Japan regions - not sure if they'll play on my DVD payer? Anyone know?

Rental by mail or pay-per-view definitely seems like the way to go for these Japanese movies. Somebody on a Japanese forum gave me an Amazon Japan link to the 1963 movie Taiheiyou no Tsubasa, a IJN fighter pilot flick starring Toshiro Mifune. Price was 3985 yen, or about $41 US :eek: and it was Japanese dialogue only, no English subtitles. I didn't even want to know what shipping would cost.
There was a movie (not Japanese) made 2-3 years ago about Nanking that centered around the efforts of missionaries and consular officials to shelter some Chinese from the atrocities committed by Japanese troops. It got good reviews and several awards but was one of those "little" movies that you almost have to get on video because it never showed in your local multiplex cinema.

I got an answer from a friend in Denmark and it was maybe,it depends on the DVD player.That doesn't help much and he does know what he's talking about,he gave me a work around but I prefer not to post it here,sorry fellas I will keep trying.:friday:

Yeah, there are some players that are not region sensetive, but I think most are. Damn, I'd really like to see that movie - give it time, I guess... I think Hellcat's got the idea for now - that movie looks like a suitable compromise for the time being... :ernae:

here is the answer I got from another friend in the know :National Television System Committee or NTSC for short is the analogue television system used in America and the far east, as opposed to Phase Alternating Line or PAL which is used in most of Europe, unless you have a multi region DVD player, it will only play on a DVD player that is set up for that particular system, but as the guy is from the US he shouldn't have a problem
It will also play on your pc as your DVD player will allow you to change the region to suit 5 times.
